Museum Report

An exciting new exhibit is currently opening at the Castle Rock History Museum. Curated by Kent Brandebery, this exhibit features artifacts including ceremonial items, Navajo rugs, and everyday items used by Native Americans in the Western Plains. Call the Museum: 303-814-3164, noon - 5 Wed-Fri, and 11 - 4 Sat.

We are proud to add Masters Candidate Ashley Suarez to our staff. Ashley brings excitement and a fresh perspective to the Museum, we are all excited to work with her. Welcome aboard, Ashley!

The Museum is working on several new items. One is the Trolley tour with CRHPB and Town Staff, details to come. Museum Staff did two outreach programs in March to spread the word about the Museum -  Angie DeLeo at Cantril House and John at Valley House Assisted Living Centers. The Window & Door project is progressing, watch for installation news soon. Recycling aluminum cans brings in a steady, small stream of income. Please keep those aluminum cans coming!

Shaun presented on the Highlands Ranch Mansion. Rumor has it that it's haunted. Shaun made a chart of all the young female candidates and gave us the run-down! Thank you to The Cakery, event sponsor, who provided tempting treats! More photos on our Facebook page.

Cave Man Workout with Rhyolte
Saturday March 30th a few strong CRHS volunteers enjoyed a paleolithic workout digging up and moving rhyolite rocks from 120 Canril St. to the Museum at 420 Elbert. The house at 120 Cantril is to be demolished and the owner, Larry Graham, graciously allowed CRHS to salvage whatever we could. The Museum wanted the rocks, so, we dug 'em up and hauled 'em over! A big Thank you to Karsh Pandy and Frank Horvath for the braun and cheerful application thereof! Thanks to Jim Hansman, Museum Curator, for rock placement guidance, and to Derek Oberlin for lending us the all-important pry-bar to dig up the rocks.
