FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:

Bellingham Traverse Greenways Run Can Now Be Split In Two (Or Three)!
Two or three runners can relay run the 5.5-mile distance instead of just one

BELLINGHAM, Wash., July 16, 2013 -- The first leg of the Bellingham Traverse, the Greenways Run, can now be shared between two (or three) runners, instead of just one. This 5.5-mile run begins downtown at the Bellingham Farmers Market and follows the South Bay Trail to Boulevard Park and on to Fairhaven. It winds up the Padden Creek Trail and out onto the side of Old Fairhaven Parkway, ending at Lake Padden.

One of the main reasons for this new addition is to allow more people to participate in the race and adventure. It also allows participants to run a shorter distance if the full 5.5-mile course is too challenging.

The three suggested transition locations along the course are Boulevard Park, Fairhaven Village Inn and the Park and Ride located at the end of Connelly Avenue, just under I-5, but runners can make the switch wherever they please. These recommendations are based on locations that provide easy exchanges for the runners. Boulevard Park is located about 1.5 miles from the start, Fairhaven Village Inn is located at about the 2.5-mile mark, and the park and ride is located at about the 4-mile mark. If participants choose to split the leg into either two or three runners, only the last runner finishing the course, before the transition to the mountain bike leg, will wear a number.

The Bellingham Traverse, which takes place Saturday, Sept. 21, is just one of Recreation Northwest’s many events. Recreation Northwest is a non-profit organization that produces sustainable events promoting public health and wellness, while showcasing the recreational amenities of the Pacific Northwest. The Bellingham Traverse is a multi-sport adventure race involving running, mountain biking, road biking, trail running, paddling and trekking, and celebrates the life cycle of wild salmon. Participants can choose from solo, tandem, relay or company teams for the race.
