Over/Under Newsletter - April 2020
The National Basketry Organization is an inclusive community of makers and enthusiasts whose purpose is to promote awareness, inspire creativity, and foster appreciation for the heritage and artistry of basketry.

What's New at NBO

As I sit here writing spring has returned as always, the only difference is that our world, country and neighborhoods are upside down. In many ways we are all in this together and yet each of us is having our own unique experience. Whether you live alone, with family or friends, in a state with shelter in place or not, there is no way to escape the Coronavirus Pandemic. One thing I am able to do is walk out my door and walk around neighborhoods, up hills to open space and learn to appreciate the amazing flowers that keep appearing every day. I am taking the time to “smell the roses” as a soothing balm to the reality outside my door.
Here’s what’s happening at NBO. The board and staff continue our work including figuring out how we can support our members and supporters during this pandemic. We had our first Teachers Zoom meeting with 9 people earlier this month. I think everyone found it both supportive and informative. We plan to hold another meeting sometime next week. I’m still collecting names and emails of anyone who wants to join the group. Please email me:  Pam Morton, NBO ED

Something else NBO is doing is creating a list of online classes to support all of the basketry teachers. You don't need to be a member to list events. These workshops can be free or fee based. Keep reading for more information.

Unfortunately Kids International Basket Weaving Day has been postponed until June 26, 2021. As with so many other events, conferences and classes they have made this difficult decision. Please look below to see their new logo with new date and read about their process.
KnotMore, a wonderful partner, advertiser and supporter of NBO, will be closing next month. Dawn Standera and her brother-in-law partner have run a successful business for many years. Sadly, he died unexpectedly in January. Please visit the Knotmore Website to make your final purchase of any remaining inventory. All of us at NBO will miss KnotMore.

The Members In Print 2 issue of Basketry+ is now in the design stage. Our juror, Jo Stealey, has made her decisions and all the artist have been notified. This issue will be out in early summer. All of us are excited to hold it in our hands and see all of the baskets. If you would like a copy and you’re not a member you can join NBO now to receive your copy.
Here are some links we think might be interesting to you. They provide resources both tangible and inspirational. Additional links are available on the NBO website

Thank you for taking the time to read NBO’s Over/Under. We value every member, supporter, and reader of the Over/Under. Please email me, Pam Morton, with any suggestions you have to help NBO support our community.
Feel free to share this with your friends.
Stay well and stay safe!

A Message from the Organizers:

Even if the virus is beaten in May and we are safe and life gets back to normal there will not be enough time to complete our preparations and execute a successful international event. We are many people in many countries and the effects of the virus has not yet peaked worldwide. With that to consider as well as your support and input I am resigned to make this announcement. Thank you for sharing this journey. We will continue it together. Weavers Rock!
Note the name change and new logo.
