<<First Name>>!

Let's catch up, we have lots of news and events coming up to tell you about. But first...

Hello everyone,

For those of you that live in Townsville, we hope you have all not been too badly affected by the recent flood. Our hearts go out to everyone that lost their belongings and/or homes this February. As you know our gallery was affected by the recent deluge. While the gallery was not inundated by flood water, there were extensive leaks and damage caused by the ongoing monsoonal rain. Due to this and the ongoing leaks, we have decided to look for a new home for Umbrella. There are a number of options we are considering and we hope to have some good news for you very soon!

We’d like to thank everyone who has generously offered to help us clean and/or assist with general tasks at this time. We hope to organise a working bee or two once we have firm plans, to help us pack, move and settle into our new home. Thanks to those who have already helped us to date.

We have resumed business operations post-flood with a temporary office based at 380 Flinders Street, kindly provided by Townsville City Council. You can still reach us on our usual phone number and email addresses for assistance with many of the normal things you rely on us for.

We have a range of exciting workshops coming up that we hope you will participate in. Alongside our normal range of workshops for artists and the broader community, this year we are planning to run a series of skills workshops for artists - aimed at responding to requests from members for sessions that build skills in particular areas such as merchandising and pricing, the basics of intellectual property and how to protect your designs/ideas, how to market yourself (e.g. building a website/using social media), and group critique sessions to expand your creative practice.

The first Skills Workshop for Artists is on Thursday 28 March from 3.30-8.30pm at the Church of Christ Complex at 235 Fulham Rd, Vincent and is free! It will focus on merchandising and pricing (turning your designs into tea towels, mugs, sarongs etc for additional income) and will be run by Justin Bishop of Black Square Arts. We will provide a free meal during a 1 hour break from 5.30-6.30pm, during which Arts Queensland will be present to get your feedback on Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander arts needs for North Queensland. I hope to see as many of you there as possible!

Please also make sure you get in your expression of interest to have a free pop-up shop/display space during our 2019 Pop Up North Queensland (PUNQ) festival. EOI’s are due Thursday 28 March. More information below.

Our exhibitions will resume on next month with an opening night Saturday 13 April 2019 and we look forward to seeing you then!

Until then, happy making!

Warm regards,

Kellie
