Thanks for a great 2018! This is our final eNews for the year.
Merry Christmas to our members!

A heartfelt thank you to our members, supporters and followers for all your love and support this year. We couldn't do the things we do without you.

A few people have asked, ‘what are the things Umbrella most need our support with for 2019?’…and here they are:
  • Volunteers with reception / admin / customer service experience

  • A carpenter interested in doing a small pro bono project (erecting new moveable walls)

  • Donations of any art related equipment, machinery or tools that you are no longer using to be made accessible for all Umbrella members to use in our studio

  • Interns to support Pop Up North Queensland 2019
If you can assist us with any of these things, please contact us.

Thanks to your help we reached our fundraising target of $7000 through the funds raised from our art adventure experience, Taste of Art. It was a delightful evening starting at A Touch of Salt for canapes by the river before guests went on a guided street art tour, before arriving at Umbrella to enjoy a scrumptious main course to the soulful tunes of Matilda Duncan. We then headed to the gallery upstairs to indulge in the sculptural dessert art forms created by the talented A Touch of Salt Head Chef, Michael Brine. It was truly a night to remember! See some of action below - photographs taken by Aaron Ashley and Umbrella staff.

If you know anyone looking for an arts job, please do encourage them to apply for our part-time Public Programs and Retail Assistant. It will start out as a one day per week role, but may build into something more substantial for the right candidate. See below for more details.

Don’t forget to fill out Arts Queensland’s online survey and/or submit a written response to have your say on the future of arts funding in our State. Let’s make sure our regional voices are heard!

I also want to acknowledge the passing of an incredible woman – ‘Aunty’ Dr Bonita Mabo. She along with her late husband Eddie Koiki Mabo made such a wonderful contribution to our country and region. Our deepest condolences go out to Bonita’s daughter Gail Mabo, our dear friend and member, and her family at this sad time.

Wishing you all a very happy festive season with your family, friends and pooches/kittens.

See you for our first opening next year - 6pm Friday 25 January 2019!

Warm regards,

Kellie
