Welcome to our April newsletter

It’s been a busy few weeks for Image Seen, with a series of workshops taking place in Dorset, Northumberland, the Lake District and Yorkshire. The above image of Saltwick Bay was taken just last week. In the meantime, Spring has finally sprung and things are certainly starting to look more green and colourful which is lovely to see.  We have plenty more workshops coming up over the next few months so if you haven’t done so yet this year, it’s time to get your camera out!

The Essence of Tuscany - May 20th - 26th 2015

It’s not long now until our Tuscany workshop in mid May, and I’m especially looking forward to this one as not only will we have the stunning Tuscan landscapes and beautiful architecture to capture on camera, we’ll also have the wonderful bonus of all the wild flowers which bloom at this time of year. We have a couple of places remaining so if you have not already signed up, its still not too late. You can find all the information here.

Waterfalls and Coastal Landscapes of South Wales - June 4th - 5th

Our early June workshop in South Wales combines two fantastic locations, the Vale of Neath with its tumbling waterfalls, and the Glamorgan Heritage Coast, with its dramatic coastal scenery. We have timed this workshop to ensure there is plenty of greenery in the woodlands of the Vale of Neath so that the waterfalls are looking their absolute best. Each of the falls has its own unique character, and is a delight for the eye, and camera.

The heritage coast, in contrast, offers crashing waves, rugged cliffs, and some unique rock formations, providing plenty of interest for the photographer. We will visit some of the areas most photogenic locations, from Dunraven Bay with its fantastic rocks and wide pebble beach, to Traeth Mawr, one of the most photographed views in the area, and the wonderful rock pavements at Monknash. We’ll also pay a visit to the nearby art deco Penarth pier.

This workshop with its focus on water, provides an excellent opportunity to hone your exposure skills, make full use of neutral density and polarising filters, and master the capture of water movement. For more information and to book, please refer to our waterfalls page. Where you will also find our video giving you tips on how to effectively photograph waterfalls.

Enchanting Exmoor - June 12th - 14th and August 14th - 16th

This year we have teamed up with the cosy and very hospitable Simonsbath House Hotel located in the heart of Exmoor, to offer you a two day workshop which takes in the highlights of this often overlooked national park. From Tarr Steps, a prehistoric clapper bridge which spans the river Barle in the very heart of the moor, to delightful villages such as Malmsmead, Oare and Brendon in the Doone Valley, together with the famous Robbers Bridge, an ancient medieval packhorse bridge, there is more than enough here to keep us busy.

The mysterious Valley of the Rocks, perched above the twin towns of Lynton & Lynmouth and the little harbour at Porlock also offer some great opportunities. For photographers seeking  beauty and tremendous variety, this wonderful region is bursting with photographic potential.

Our summer workshop takes place when many of the coastal flowers are in full bloom, whilst in August we have the added bonus of the vast stretches of stunning purple heather which adorn the moorland. More details can be found on our website. To book please contact Simonsbath House Hotel directly.

The Peak District - June 22nd - 24th

Talking of national parks, the Peak District, is thought to be the second most-visited national park in the world. An area of great diversity made up of rocky outcrops, heather covered moorland and wonderful limestone dales. It is conventionally split into the northern Dark Peak, where most of the moorland and more dramatic scenery is found, and the southern, more gentle, White Peak.

Over the course of our two day workshop we visit both of these areas, and show you some of the best locations such as Longshaw Estate, where we can find the remains of millstone quarries with abandoned mill stones, and Stanage Edge, the largest and most impressive of the grit stone edges. We will explore the dramatic panoramas seen from Baslow and Curbar Edge, as well as the lovely Padley Gorge with its ancient oaks, mossy rocks and tumbling streams.

Further south, we’ll visit charming Dovedale, as well as Monsal Head - a famous Derbyshire Peak District beauty spot with a magnificent view down Monsal Dale and up the Wye valley. Find out more on our website

Cotswolds one day workshops

Each time I run a Cotswolds workshop, I am reminded how lucky I am to live in this lovely part of England, with its honey coloured villages, and rolling gentle landscapes. We have a number of one day workshops scheduled in this delightful region throughout the year and our late June and early July workshops also feature the stunning lavender fields at Snowshill. Visit our website for more details.

Yorkshire Coastal Treasures - October 1st - 4th

I have just returned from my second workshop on the North Yorkshire coast, an area which offers plenty of interesting subject matter for the photographer. The tiny harbour village of Staithes is a particularly charming spot, and it's easy to spend several hours there. From tiny fishing villages clinging to rocky cliffs, to glorious beaches, and the imposing ruins of Whitby Abbey, this three day coastal workshop takes in the very best of the Yorkshire coast and offers a wealth of opportunities for developing your photographic technique.

Our next workshop here is planned for early October so if you haven’t yet visited this part of the coast, don’t delay - you won’t be disappointed. You can find out more about it here.

Westonbirt Arboretum Autumn Colours - October 20th, 21st, 24th, 25th, November 1st

Autumn may seem a long way away at the moment, but places are already filling fast on our one day Westonbirt workshops, which take place at this world famous national arboretum. This workshop provides you with the opportunity to learn how to effectively photograph trees and capture the stunning autumn colours. We have five dates to offer you at the end of October and early November - please click here for more information.

Next week I’m off to western Sicily to recce for a five day workshop scheduled for this time next year and to give my new D810 a good workout!  More details will be announced in the next couple of months. To be one of the first to receive information please register your interest here.
