A recent YouGov poll finds that 65% of tenants are not aware of their rights under the new Homes (Fitness for Human Habitation) Act 2018.
More Than Half of Rental Tenants Have Experienced Damp & Mould Issues
The Homes (Fitness for Human Habitation) Act 2018 came into force on the 20th of March 2019. The Act sets out the rights of tenants and the responsibilities for landlords in regards to providing people with acceptable living conditions, including tenants' right to "freedom from damp".
In order to find out how this new act may affect the rental market, Safeguard Europe commissioned a survey from leading pollsters YouGov.
Safeguard wanted to know what proportion of tenants were aware of their new rights and also what building defects they had experienced that might render their home not ‘fit for human habitation.’
The survey uncovered some fascinating results, including the fact that more than 51% of the people surveyed had experienced damp issues. Of those same people, 65% were not aware of their new rights under the new Act.
