redshoes nation: What changes are you making for spring?
redshoes26 design logo

While spring is usually a time to make things tidy, my calendar has been a crowded mess! But that's a good thing—I've been checking things off my to-do list, creating new work, signing up for shows…and I have even more scheduled for the rest of this month and April. Check it out:

I'm so excited to introduce you to the fabulous Becky Sturm of StormSister Spatique. I met her last summer when I became part of the CRAVE community of female entrepreneurs. The St. Paul resident's shhh. shampoo | shower | shave bar recently won a Minnesota Monthly Best Of award for Best Local Product for Saving Time. Want a bar for free? The first five people to comment on a StormSister blog post will receive one!

Hey Becky! Tell us about your background.
I graduated from Horst Education Center's (now the Aveda Institute) Advanced Training program in 1985. My grandmother was a hairdresser and basically told me where I would go to school! I was hired by one of the best salons in the Twin Cities, The Red Carpet Salons, immediately out of school.

What makes your products stand out?
StormSister Spatique is an online beauty boutique. It began online in 2005, then I opened up a storefront in 2006. I closed it in 2010 to launch 3waybeauty, a multi-purpose beauty and grooming brand.

The last two years I had my storefront, I was educating my clients on how to get more uses out of their grooming/beauty products. They had less money to spend but still wanted quality skin and body care. There was also concern about traveling with grooming products. From those issues, shhh. shampoo | shower | shave, my flagship product, was born.

How long have you been at it?
My entire life. I have memories of being about 3 or 4 and playing "beauty shop" with my sister. Her sitting in the salon chair and me brushing her hair and putting clips in it.

Why do you do what you do?
I have learned that the ingredients in beauty and grooming products in the U.S. are not very healthy. It is very important that I educate as I redesign grooming.

What are some secrets to your success?
Tenacity, tenacity, tenacity. Being generous with my information and sharing it with others. Giving that information without expecting something in return. The law of attraction works!

Which products are you most proud of?
I think I'm going to always be most proud of shhh. It really is the reinvention of grooming. All "soap" is not drying and there are no travel restrictions with a solid. It's also a great product for the gyml. And once men "think outside the can" and give it a try, they love shaving with it, and the shampoo and showering benefit make it especially appealing to them.

What advice can you give us?
Read your grooming and beauty product labels. Learn what those ingredients are: What goes on your body; what goes in your body.

Find StormSister Spatique and 3waybeauty at,, or STYLEDLIFE at the Galleria in Edina, Minnesota.
