Our Event Season kicked off with the O'Neill Highland Surfing Champs in Thurso on 13th April, the London Marathon on 17th April and Maggie's Monster Bike & Hike on 30th April / 1st May.  Thank you to all therapists for taking part and doing a brilliant job at all of these events.  The season is now well underway with events taking place on most weekends for the next couple of months.  Many events are now full up but please do let me know if there is anything you are interested in working at - we often need to call in our reserves so it's worth putting your name down on the reserve list when events are full.

If you do not wish to receive emails from Athletes' Angels, please click on the unsubscribe button at the bottom of the newsletter - please do not report us as SPAM!  This would be much appreciated!

Edinburgh Marathon

We have a few last minute places at the Edinburgh Marathon on Sunday 22nd May.  Therapists will be providing massage to the MacMillan Cancer Support charity runners at the finish in Musselburgh.  You will earn £70 and ideally you will have your own table although I can supply a few tables to anyone coming from outside of Edinburgh.  This is not suitable for students except those who have completed the 'Hands On' massage course with us.  Please email if you are interested in working at this event.  See full info here.

Oxfam Trailtrekker - 4/5th June 2011 - North Yorkshire

There are a couple of places left at this event which will see over 800 participants walking 100km in 32 hours.  We will have teams of Angels working along the route, helping the participants to push through right to the end of this extremely tough challenge.  Therapists will be paid between £85 and £95 depending on the shifts they work and you can expect to be working overnight.  Tables can be provided and this is suitable for students.  For full info click here.  Let us know if you wish to come along.

Rob Roy Challenge - 18/19th June 2011

We still need therapists for the Rob Roy Challenge on 18/19th June this year.  This is an amazing event for everyone involved - we will have 50 therapists working out on the route and at the finish, there will be a massive ceilidh, feast and fireworks at the end of the day and we encourage everyone to come along, do some work, have some fun and help some great charities raise lots of money.  To find out more about it click here.

The Athletes' Angels Taping Course took place on Saturday 7th May and was a huge success.  Jennifer Jackson and Gianni Bassi did an excellent job as tutors and we all left with some fantastic new skills for using on tired and sore participants at upcoming events.  We had a good mix of physios, student physios, sports therapists and sports massage therapists taking part.  All students worked hard, enjoyed the day and we will definitely be holding this course again at some point in the future.  Do let us know if you'd be interested in coming along so that we can get another date in the diary - it was well worth the time and effort we all put in and there is a lot to learn on this subject.  The introduction to Kinesiology Taping was an interesting end to the day and this is definitely a subject that caught our attention and is another subject we might consider running a course on in the future.  Please do let us know if this is something that would interest you -

2-weekend Massage Course: 8/9th October & 12/13th November 2011

We will be running this course for the first time in 2011.  We are currently working out the full programme with Scottish Massage Schools and will post it on the website as soon as it is finalised but you can expect Swedish Massage and Sports Massage Techniques for the whole body; a Trigger-pointing workshop and a stretching workshop, amongst other things.  To find out more, check out the website.

Marjorie Brook - AIS (Active Isolated Stretching) and FAST (Fascial Adhesion Scar Tissue) Practitioner

Marjorie has been bringing her specialised teaching over to the UK for some time now and we have heard fantastic things about the courses she offers.  From the outset of her career as a massage therapist, she recognised the importance of treating scar tissue - something I'm sure that most of us will also appreciate.  Through Brook Seminars, Marjorie teaches her techniques internationally, offering continuing education courses in F.A.S.T. Release Method™ , F.A.S.T. Therapy™ and Body Mechanics.  We asked Marjorie what it is that inspires her to teach and she told us, "the most rewarding aspect of my efforts is seeing the light in the eyes of my students when they “get it"  - when they realise that they can truly make a difference in their own lives and those of their clients. And then to receive feedback that they and their clients have achieved amazing results because of the techniques I have taught them".  Marjorie understands that people learn and process information differently and therefore her teaching is tailored to reach out to a broad spectrum.  Group participation and humour are encouraged in her workshops along with active contribution to the learning experience by everyone involved.

If you would like to find out more about Marjorie's methods, have a look at the website by clicking on the logo on the right.Brook Seminars logo
She will be teaching in Scotland between 21st and 24th July this year.  If you are interested in attending, please contact Scottish Massage Schools on

We have a couple of additions to the calendar:
The Liverpool Triathlon - Sunday 26th June 2011
This is new for us this year and we need a small team of therapists to work there with the team from Santander.  Therapists must be fully qualified, fully insured and must provide their own massage table and equipment.  You will be providing massage to the participants of the Santander team so you must be a massage therapist, sports therapist or physio with massage skills.  You will earn £70 for the day and you must be a member of Athletes' Angels.
The Invesco Perpetual Highland Adventure Race - Saturday 24th September 2011
We have just been re-confirmed for this event which we attended for the first time last year.  Participants will be making their way along the Great Glen Way by bike, canoe and on foot, travelling 100km in 24 hours and taking in the highest point in the UK.  We need a team of therapists to massage their weary bodies as they finish.  You must be fully qualified, fully insured and you must have your own massage table and equipment.  This will suit massage therapists, sports therapists and physios with massage skills.  You will be based near Fort William and you will earn £50 for a 3 hour evening shift (1830 - 2130hrs).

If you are interested in working at either of these events, please email  Please note that current members will be given first refusal.

Balens Logo
Balens have expert knowledge and experience in providing insurance to all health practitioners.  We highly recommend them to all our therapists.  They are friendly, reliable and will put together a quote for any specification.  Please click on the logo on the left to access their website.

And finally.....

I hope that you are all enjoying the summer so far - the weather has been good to us at the first few events - long may it continue.  It would be lovely to see the teams outdoors again this year where possible.

Please feel free to contact me any time if you have any questions or if you want to find out more about getting involved - we are always looking for more therapists to join the team.

Best wishes.
