EVENTS STILL TO COME

Most of the events are all sorted but we still need a few therapists at a few:

Great North Run - Sunday 18th September, Newcastle
We've been asked to provide a few more small teams for various charities and we now need even more therapists.  This will be our biggest year yet at the Great North Run.  You must be fully qualified, have your own massage table and equipment and you must be happy to make your way to the finish in South Shields nice and early on the Sunday morning.  This would suit physio students who have completed the 'Hands On for Therapists' course with Athletes' Angels.  Read more about the event here and email me ASAP if you're interested.

The Highland Adventure Race - Saturday 24th September, Fort William
We still need just a couple of therapists to work at this event in the beautiful Scottish Highlands.  You must be fully qualified and you must have your own massage table and equipment.  This is not suitable for students.  Please read more about the event here and email me ASAP if you're interested.

The Loch Ness Marathon - Sunday 2nd October, Inverness
We provide a huge team of therapists for the Loch Ness Marathon every year and are always looking for more of you to attend.  This is a huge event which is growing every year.  There will be several thousand participants this year and we will be providing massages to those who wish them at the finish line.  This is suitable for physios, massage therapists and sports therapists.  Students are welcome as long as you are happy to provide massage - having taken part in our 'Hands on for Therapists' course would be beneficial.  Read more here and email me ASAP if you would like to come along.

2011 COURSES STILL TO COME

Physio Expedition Course - 15/16th October 2011 - Glenmore Lodge, Aviemore
Here at Athletes' Angels there is growing demand for physiotherapists / sports therapists to become involved with major expeditions and this is an area we are very excited to be working in.  We have therefore teamed up with Glenmore Lodge, Aviemore to bring you a unique new course which will teach a variety of unusual skills which would come in useful in a wide range of expedition settings.  We are thrilled to be bringing you top wilderness expertise from our tutors who are all vastly capable in this field.  You can see the full programme and information about the tutors here.

The course is phenomenal value at just £290 for 2 days which includes accommodation and food at Glenmore Lodge, Aviemore.  This is a fantastic opportunity for therapists to increase their skill sets and I advise those who can to come along and learn from the team.  Please email Caroline on info@athletesangels.com to find out more.  If you wish to secure a place, please send a cheque for £290 to Athletes' Angels Courses, Morven, Taybridge Road, Aberfeldy, PH15 2BH.

Massage for Physios Course - 8/9th October & 12/13th November 2011 - Edinburgh
We still have places for therapists on our 2-weekend massage course which will be running in conjunction with Scottish Massage Schools in October and November of this year.  This course will introduce the basic Swedish massage skills (effleurage, petrissage, frictions, tapotement and their uses on the whole body) in weekend one before moving on to remedial / sports massage techniques in weekend two (myofascial release, trigger pointing, neuromuscular techniques).  We will show you the skills to enable you to start using massage in your daily practice and appropriate skills for using at events.  We will also show you ways of protecting yourself while working.

The course costs just £400 for 2 weekends and takes place on 8/9th October and 12/13th November 2011 in Edinburgh.  Please email Caroline for more info and to find out how to secure a place.  Learning these valuable skills will contribute towards that all important CPD so it's definitely worth checking out.  Course outline here.

THE HOME EXPEDITION

Back in March of this year we placed a physio with an amazing running expedition called The Home Expedition.  A group of 4 runners were planning to run the Silk Road from Turkey to China in 5 months - a world first attempt.  Expedition Director, Andrew Strachan, emailed last week to let us know that the group are now less than 1000km from the finish line in Xi'an.  This is fantastic news and means that Athletes' Angels are well on the way to being part of an astounding 5th world record!  This is really exciting news for us and we're absolutely thrilled for the running team who are doing a phenomenal job.

Someone else who is working exceptionally hard is Stephen McNally, the physio working with the team on their expedition.  Read all about the trials and tribulations of working on a challenging expedition on Stephen's blog on the CSP website - check it out here.

We plan to hold a talk about the expedition when Stephen has returned home from his incredible journey (possibly one in Edinburgh and one in London).  We will keep you all posted about a date when we have one confirmed.  In the meantime, please let me know if you would be interested in attending.
