Board Approves Water Rate Increase

In a 4-3 vote, the Board of Directors approved a water rate increase for the next four years, subject to the Board revisiting the rates after 2 years. The overall annual increase is 6.7% per year. The approved rates will:

  • Fund three of the Agency’s reserve funds at target levels over a four-year period,
  • Provide $3 million for water supply reliability projects, and
  • Gradually increase the fixed charge component from 35 to 45% over the four years—increasing financial stability and better preparing the Agency for future drought situations.

For a customer using 10 ccf of water per month, the average increase would be approximately $1.50 per month in 2019, increasing to $2.31 per month in 2022. For a customer using 20 ccf of water per month, the average increase would be approximately $2.99 per month in 2019, increasing to $4.63 per month in 2022. Note that each water retailer calculates bills differently so impacts may vary. Also note that these reflect Zone 7 increases only, and not any potential increases charged by the retailers.

Reminder:

Adjust Outdoor Irrigation Settings for Fall Weather!

Temperatures are cooling and rain is in the forecast - it’s time to check your automatic outdoor irrigation systems and scale back your watering schedules. You can check the moisture level in your soil by simply digging around with a screwdriver – if the dirt sticks together, you probably don’t need to water. If the dirt dry and crumbly, your plants may need a drink. As always, turn off all irrigation systems when it’s raining!
