Parents!

Happy February! In case you somehow forgot, the Ravens won the Superbowl, we went to Big Chill, it snowed Saturday and Valentine’s Day is in 9 days. I have to say that 2013 has started off to a good start with our annual Big Chill event. I am excited to see what else God has in mind and planned for us here at CONCORD for the rest of year. There is much to be joyful about and hopefully you catch that as you read through this newsletter.

[Big Chill 2013]

We serve a great God don’t we? I am blown away by how he has worked in the lives of our students. Big Chill this year was beyond what I would have ever imagined. I feel that our students connected closer to one another, that God broke down age barriers, as well as connected our students with Him through their time in worship and during the messages. It is always one of the best moments as a pastor to be listening during a worship set, only to be drown out by the voices of your students, or to be listening to a message realizing that you could hear a pin drop. Our speaker Jason did a marvelous job explaining to our students what maturity looks like spiritually, emotionally and relationally. I know that for many of the students the messages were a difficult subject to swallow, but prompted good discussion. Thank you all for your prayers and support in making this all come together. Below are some videos from the weekend.

[February Teaching]

For the month of February we will be in the Story entirely. We are now entering into the part of the Story that gets a little depressing. The kingdom of Israel has taken a turn for the worst and is only going to continue to make more and more mistakes. The Northern Kingdom never sees a King who does right in the eyes of God. There will be a steady reign of kings in the Southern Kingdom that do justly in the eyes of God but then slip away until God takes not only the Northern Kingdom but also the Southern Kingdom into exile because of their sin. Below is the outline of messages for the next month.

SUNDAY MORNINGS
3rd – Chapter 14: Kingdom Torn in Two
   10th – Chapter 15: God’s Messengers
17th – Chapter 16: The Beginning of the End
   24th – Chapter 17: The Kingdoms’ Fall

SUNDAY EVENINGS
6th – More on Chapter 14 (HS and MS combined)
   10th/13th – More on Chapter 15
   17th/20th – More on Chapter 16
   24th/27th – More on Chapter 17
[Trivia Night]

Trivia Night is right around the corner! This year we will be hosting the Trivia Night at CONCORD on March 2nd. We will be running our Silent Auction from 5-6pm with Trivia starting at 6pm. The cost per person is $20 and $160 for a table of 8. This is a great opportunity to invite your friends or co-workers to a night out! Not only is it a good opportunity to hang out but also to be a blessing.

With that said we are in need of your help! To make this night be a big success we need advertisement and silent auction items! Here are some ways that you can get involved.
      1. Print off our ad for the Trivia Night and hang it up at work!
      2. Help out or come the night of Trivia Night
      3. Donate items from the Silent Auction
Be sure to connect with Melissa Luther or Thea Hempel on anyways that you can help! Click their names to email them with ideas or ways you can help. Thanks!

[Mission Location and Summer Dates]

Speaking of Trivia Night, we have officially announced our location for this years mission trip! We will be traveling to Cherokee, North Carolina to work on an Indian reservation in the Smokey Mountains. We will be going through the organization “World Changers”. I have heard great things about the way they utilize us as short-term missionaries. I know that no matter what, through prayer and faith, God will do amazing things through the students to reach out to the Native Americans on the reservation.

With summer comes planning and I know many of you have already put your plans into full motion. Here are our dates for our big events and the estimated costs, so that you can plan ahead! I know many of you have tight budgets and/or lots of children so hopefully this will give you an opportunity to begin setting aside money.
[Next Parent Social]

I am planning our next Parent Social for April 14th. This hopefully has been an encouraging time for you to connect with other parents in the youth. My aim is that you will grow together as a community of parents as well as feel equipped to disciple your children in the word of God.
[Guatemala]

This coming week I will be leaving the country! I am going to Guatemala with the second wave of adults from the 9th-16th. I am very excited to see what God has been doing in the lives of the local people there. Please pray for us as we continue to aid in the construction of their pastoral training facility and ministering to the local people.

In my absence we will have guest speakers who will fill my place. Sunday morning will look the same. Sunday Evening the Middle School pastor from EFree St. Louis will be speaking to our High School students. On Wednesday Evening Lanny McFarland will be filling in and speaking to our Middle School students. I will be back for Sunday Morning and HS Evening Worship on the 17th.
I hope that God continues to move and work in you powerfully! Do not give up the habit of time spent with God, your savior and king. I pray for you all often and I know that God will use you to do great things in His Kingdom if you let Him. Let us be the men and women of God that we desire our children to be.
