Not Conforming to the Current Culture

Greetings! I pray the past month has been a good one for each of your. I have a true yearning in my heart to encourage the people of God to keep God's standard for their lives instead of conforming to the current culture. This month we are going to look at how we are to operate in this current culture as Kingdom citizens. We are not to base the way we live on what takes place in the world's culture. We live our lives based on the King and His heavenly culture.

Romans 12:2 BSB
“Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to discern what is the good, pleasing, and perfect will of God.”

We must not be moved by prevailing cultural customs.
John 15:19 NIV
2 Timothy 3:1-9 NLT

As Kingdom citizens, we have been given a standard to live by that does not change based on man’s customs and culture.
1 John 4:4-6 BSB
Malachi 3:6a NLT
Hebrews 13:8 BSB

We are called to be light and salt in a dark and tasteless world. Matthew 5:13-15 NLT
Matthew 5:16 BSB

In order to be light and salt, we must have our minds renewed with the Word of God.
Ephesians 4:23-24 BSB

As Kingdom citizens, we are responsible for being an example of God’s Kingdom culture in the world.
Colossians 4:5 NLT
1 John 5:4 BSB

We are to be bearers of truth in a world that has exchanged the truth for a lie.
Romans 1:16-32 BSB

As Kingdom citizens and ambassadors, we are responsible for representing God and His standards in the earth.
1 John 5:3 GWT

We do not operate by our personal opinions, but by what the King has said.
John 12:49 NLT

We need to use our influence to show people a better way.
1 Peter 3:15 CSB

We use our lives as an example of the Kingdom’s culture.
1 Peter 2:12 CEV & GWT

We have to watch out for the pressure that would cause us to compromise.
1 John 2:15 NLT
James 4:4 CEV

We cannot back down our standard of morality to make people feel comfortable.
Ezekiel 3:17-19 BSB
Ezekiel 33:6 BSB

God holds us responsible for warning people who come across our path who are operating against His culture and standard. Jeremiah 6:10-21 BSB

I am praying you will stand for what God stands for in these last days as we prepare for the return of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.

1. Have you allowed current cultural norms to cause you to back down your standard of morality?
2. Is your life distinguishable from those in the world around you?

3. Are you allowing God's Word to continually renew your mind?

4. Are you drinking the cultural Kool-aid and releasing the truth for a lie?

5. Do you realize and recognize that your opinion does not matter in the Kingdom, only what the King has said?

6. Are you being influential or are you being influenced?

7. Are you willing to share the truth, even when you may make people uncomfortable?

Word to the Wise

I would like to send a shout of congratulations to all the recent graduates! This time of year is always a reminder that so many people are beginning on a new journey or adventure in life that will require them to use the wisdom they have gained during their educational experience. Just like each of the new graduates will be pulled on to use their education and wisdom gained, each of us on a daily basis must use the wisdom we have received from God to navigate through the challenges that life throws at us. We may be blessed in ways that many new graduates are not. We have the benefit of being led by the Holy Spirit and using the wisdom gained from God's Word. Make sure you use the benefits of your Kingdom citizenship instead of just depending on worldly wisdom. Your benefits will cause you to be distinguished and attractive to a world that is looking for answers.
