What's On Your Mind

Greetings! This month we will look at a topic that we are all familiar with, but sometimes neglect until we are faced with a situation that requires us to see things from a godly perspective. We are going to look at "What's On Your Mind". Everyday we are bombarded with thoughts and ideas that originate from the kingdom of darkness. We are exposed to ungodly thoughts from the media and current culture on a daily basis and we need to know how to combat this daily onslaught. This lesson is a reminder of what we need to do to keep our minds free from the attacks of the enemy.

God knows our thoughts.
First of all we need to remember that God knows what’s on our minds. We cannot live our lives in a way where there is no accountability. God does see us; even beyond our actions.
Genesis 6:5 ESV
“The LORD saw that the wickedness of man was great in the earth, and that every intention of the thoughts of his heart was only evil continually.”
Ezekiel 11:5 NLT
“Then the Spirit of the LORD came upon me, and he told me to say, “This is what the LORD says to the people of Israel: I know what you are saying, for I know every thought that comes into your minds.”
Psalm 139:2 GWT
“You alone know when I sit down and when I get up. You read my thoughts from far away.”

Thinking in the Kingdom is doing.
Kingdom living takes its citizens to a higher level of accountability. God see your intent.
Matthew 5:27-28 ESV & CEV
“You have heard that it was said, ‘You shall not commit adultery.’ But I say to you that everyone who looks at a woman with lustful intent has already committed adultery with her in his heart.”
“You know the commandment which says, "Be faithful in marriage." But I tell you if you look at another woman and want her, you are already unfaithful in your thoughts.”

What we think will produce a certain outcome.
Matthew 15:18-19 CEV & GNT
“But the words that come out of your mouth come from your heart. And they are what make you unfit to worship God. Out of your heart come evil thoughts, murder, unfaithfulness in marriage, vulgar deeds, stealing, telling lies, and insulting others.”
“But the things that come out of the mouth come from the heart, and these are the things that make you ritually unclean. For from your heart come the evil ideas which lead you to kill, commit adultery, and do other immoral things; to rob, lie, and slander others.”
Mark 7:21-22 CEV
“Out of your heart come evil thoughts, vulgar deeds, stealing, murder, unfaithfulness in marriage, greed, meanness, deceit, indecency, envy, insults, pride, and foolishness.”
Luke 6:45 CEV
“Good people do good things because of the good in their hearts, but bad people do bad things because of the evil in their hearts. Your words show what is in your heart.”
Psalm 40:8 NET & NLT
“I want to do what pleases you, my God. Your law dominates my thoughts."
“I take joy in doing your will, my God, for your instructions are written on my heart.”

How we think brings certain results.
We must not waiver in our faith towards God and the certainty of His Word.
James 1:6-7 NLT
“But when you ask him, be sure that your faith is in God alone. Do not waver, for a person with divided loyalty is as unsettled as a wave of the sea that is blown and tossed by the wind. Such people should not expect to receive anything from the Lord.” Romans 8:6 NLT
“So letting your sinful nature control your mind leads to death. But letting the Spirit control your mind leads to life and peace.” Romans 8:7 NIV
“The mind governed by the flesh is hostile to God; it does not submit to God's law, nor can it do so.”

Right thinking produces peace.
You don't have to receive negative reports or negative speaking from anyone.
Isaiah 26:3 ESV & NLT
“You keep him in perfect peace whose mind is stayed on you, because he trusts in you.”
“You will keep in perfect peace all who trust in you, all whose thoughts are fixed on you!”

We must be purposeful with our thinking.
We are responsible for the directions our minds go in.
Colossians 3:2 BSB, GNT & ABIPE
“Set your minds on things above, not on earthly things.”
“Keep your minds fixed on things there, not on things here on earth.”
“Feed on that which is above and not that which is in The Earth,” Proverbs 23:19 CSB
“Listen, my son, and be wise; keep your mind on the right course.”
Deuteronomy 4:9 CSB
“Only be on your guard and diligently watch yourselves, so that you don't forget the things your eyes have seen and so that they don't slip from your mind as long as you live. Teach them to your children and your grandchildren.”
Philippians 4:8 NLT
“And now, dear brothers and sisters, one final thing. Fix your thoughts on what is true, and honorable, and right, and pure, and lovely, and admirable. Think about things that are excellent and worthy of praise.”

You have to guard your mind.
Don't allow random thoughts to just attack your mind without doing anything about them.
Philippians 4:7 BSB
“And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.”
Proverbs 4:23 NLT
“Guard your heart above all else, for it determines the course of your life.”
Ephesians 6:16 NLT
“In addition to all of these, hold up the shield of faith to stop the fiery arrows of the devil.”
2 Corinthians 10:5
“Casting down imaginations, and every high thing that exalts itself against the knowledge of God, and bringing into captivity every thought to the obedience of Christ;”

You need to be of one mind.
Don't allow the attacks against your mind to cause you to be divided in your thinking.
Jeremiah 32:39 NET
“I will give them a single-minded purpose to live in a way that always shows respect for me. They will want to do that for their own good and the good of the children who descend from them” Psalm 86:11 CSB
“Teach me your way, LORD, and I will live by your truth. Give me an undivided mind to fear your name.”

Renew your mind with God’s Word.
Romans 12:2 BSB, GWT & ABIPE
“Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what is the good, pleasing, and perfect will of God.”
“Don't become like the people of this world. Instead, change the way you think. Then you will always be able to determine what God really wants-what is good, pleasing, and perfect.”
“And do not imitate this world, but be transformed by the renovation of your minds, and you shall distinguish what is the good, acceptable and perfect will of God.”
Ephesians 4:23 KJV & NLT
“And be renewed in the spirit of your mind;”
“Instead, let the Spirit renew your thoughts and attitudes.” Colossians 3:10 NLT
“Put on your new nature, and be renewed as you learn to know your Creator and become like him.”
1 Corinthians 2:16 NLT
"For who can know the Lord's thoughts? Who knows enough to teach him? But we understand these things, for we have the mind of Christ."

Word to the Wise

This month, I would like to share a story with you about sharing your gift. During my ministry travels, I met an anointed woman of God who was sharing her testimony regarding her gift. This woman was a gifted singer. She was so gifted and anointed that she was asked to accompany a very well known evangelist and to conduct the worship service for the meetings. She would sing before thousands of people leading people into the presence of the Lord. Now this woman of God was older and no longer wanted to share her gift because she did not feel like she sounded as good as the younger women. I was saddened listening to her because I wondered why she would stop singing to the Lord just based on how she felt comparing herself with other singers. I wanted to share this story to encourage each of us to use our gifts for the Lord at whatever level we are able to. God knows the intent of our heart. We should be more focused on pleasing God then receiving the accolades of people. I encourage you to not compare yourself with others. 2 Corinthians 10:12 CSB Use your gifting to God's glory and be at peace with the fact that God is pleased with your desire to glorify Him.
