PET of the MONTH

This little cutie is Massimo, a 16 year old shih tzu. Massimo is naturally very relaxed yet very independent, sometimes showing his feisty side. In fact, his feistiness helped him recover from an injury that occurred this past July. Over the past few years, Massimo had progressively developed arthritis along his spine. One day, after a long walk, Massimo lost function in his hind legs. X-rays showed severe disk compression in his thoracic spine. Massimo was referred to Horse 'n Hound for physical therapy. At that point, we were hopeless and willing to try anything to help Massimo. Our hopelessness soon turned to hopefulness after encouragement from Jennifer Brooks, PT, CCRP, at Massimo's initial evaluation. He began to exhibit strength in his lower body for the first time. He attended PT 2-3 times per week for a couple of months and performed stretching and strengthening exercises at home. As each week passed, Massimo slowly regained strength and function in his core and hind legs. His first milestone was standing on his own for longer than a minute at a time. He soon began to eat, drink and perform outside duties without assistance. Regular tail wagging was a most welcome milestone.

Massimo is now in a maintenance program, laser and aqua therapy every other week. Apart from using the stairs, Massimo lives the same joyful life he lived before his injury. This experience has felt like a series of little miracles, and witnessing Massimo's progress has brought pure joy to everyone who loves him. We are most grateful to everyone at Horse 'n Hound, especially Melina LaBonte, Rehab Therapist, who has been so attentive and loving towards Massimo. 🐶          ~ Vilma Sorgente

Laser Therapy
Horse 'n Hound has essentially “brought Rascal back to life”.
After seeing the obvious benefits of the weekly laser treatments...at HNHPT,Rascal's Laser Therapy
we purchased our own laser treatment device. This has proven to be an excellent investment – because of our ability to provide frequent laser therapy to sore joints & muscles, we’ve been able to manage pain without the need for any drugs or medications. We continue regular exercise at home, using the exercise techniques that HnHPT provided to us.

Montana enjoying his aquatherapy to ease arthritic pain

Every now and then a dog story like this makes its way around the Internet to put a smile on everyone’s face.😀

A Dog Kept Showing Up At A Neighbor’s House
For One Very Good Reason

“An older, tired-looking dog wandered into my yard; I could tell from his collar and well-fed belly that he had a home and was well taken care of. He calmly came over to me, I gave him a few pats on his head; he then followed me into my house, slowly walked down the hall, curled up in the corner and fell asleep. An hour later, he went to the door, and I let him out.

“The next day he was back, greeted me in my yard, walked inside and resumed his spot in the hall and again slept for about an hour. This continued off and on for several weeks.

“Curious I pinned a note to his collar, ‘I would like to find out who the owner of this wonderful sweet dog is and ask if you are aware that almost every afternoon your dog comes to my house for a nap.’

“The next day he arrived for his nap, with a different note pinned to his collar, ‘He lives in a home with 6 children, 2 under the age of 3 and he’s trying to catch up on his sleep. Can I come with him tomorrow?'”
