NEPTUNE is a 7 year 9 month old longhaired dachshund, he weighs about 17lbs. As you can see from the amount of titles in his name, his favorite thing to do is agility. We compete mainly in CPE (Canine Performance Events), TDAA (Teacup Dog Agility Association) and occasionally in AKC (American Kennel Club) and USDAA (United States Dog Agility Association).

Neptune has earned 3 CPE championships (C-ATCh) and 2 TDAA championships (TACh) and is just a few qualifying runs away from the highest level title CPE offers (C-ATE) which only 2 other dachshunds have achieved. (Both are smooth variety, so he would be the first longhaired). He is also working on a 4th C-ATCh in CPE, and a C-10 (10,000 lifetime points). In TDAA he is about halfway to his 3rd TACh title.

We started working out at HnHPT August 18, 2013, to keep his core strong and build his speed and endurance, and has remained symptom free to date, due to his regular conditioning work we commit to with HnHPT.  He enjoys his time at the clinic, starting with schmoozing treats from Lori in the front office, to the land treadmill portion of his work out, to the water treadmill portion. We have also purchased Fit Paw Peanuts to extend his workouts to home. He looks and moves much younger than his years.

Attached are photos of his CPE Championship, CPE Extraordinaire and TDAA Championship title ribbons, including a single of the most recent Extraordinaire title EX-Jackpot, earned this September, he qualified in 9 out of 10 of his runs. Also a Perry Photography shot from the 2016 CPE National event, taken in June.   ~Sarah & Matt Power

Is your horse having problems with hind end weakness,

If so, come to our long-awaited & requested...

Stifle & Hind End Impulsion Clinic

Sunday, November 20th
9:00-4:00
4 horse slots available @$200,
20 audit slots available @$35

Stifle Rehabilitation - not just for stifle problems, but also rehab for horse’s lacking hind end impulsion.

Common conditions associated to the stifle include degenerative joint disease or osteoarthritis; osteochondral fragmentation, either traumatic or due to a failure of endochondral ossification known as osteochondritis dissecans lesions; subchondral bone cysts;  meniscal and cruciate ligament tears, patellar and collateral desmitis and intermittent upward fixation of patella.

When horses have a distal limb injuries or back pain they decondition through out, mostly in the haunches, due to prolonged stall rest and inactivity. Decline of haunch muscle strength leads to further decline of  the hind end function, which can frequently lead to conditions of intermittent fixation of the patella.

This clinic will address:

  • review of stifle anatomy,
  • pathological conditions,
  • methods of veterinary medicine and physical therapy interventions,
  • Rehabilitation emphasis of what owners can do to help their horse recover from injury and surgery, with hands on methods of controlled exercise program starting with joint range of motion, stretching exercises, on to progressive strengthening program towards ridden work.

Physical therapy (PT) treatment is focused on healing of injury, reducing pain and returning the animal to function.  PT is largely focused on owner education and empowerment for them to treat their horse directly with the approaches they learn from this clinic.

Laser Therapy
Horse 'n Hound has essentially “brought [our dog] back to life”.
After seeing the obvious benefits of the weekly laser treatments...at HNHPT,
we purchased our own laser treatment device. This has proven to be an excellent investment – because of our ability to provide frequent laser therapy
to sore joints & muscles, we’ve been able to manage pain without the need for any drugs or medications. We continue regular exercise at home, using the exercise techniques that HnHPT provided to us.
