We've been quite busy since the NAMM show. Richard just returned from a wonderful trip to the Music Messe in Frankfurt, followed by a series of workshops in Germany... Carolyn just returned from another successful trade show at SXSW in Austin, showcasing our guitars for the next generation of players.. and now summer is on the horizon, and we look forward to more of you visiting our shop in Santa Cruz!

Richard Hoover on the Discovery Channel
The Discovery Channel came by the shop to interview Richard about using older tone woods for guitar tops to achieve a better sound. Great footage of Richard at Brian Campbell's mill in Santa Cruz, as well as in our shop. Our good friend Josh Gordis conducts a scientific experiment on the frequencies of older tone wood vs newer. Click on the image below to watch the clip
... and please note, you will be forced to watch a commercial before the video starts, so we appreciate your patience.
Clapton's SCGC Restoration
Our guys have just finished the restoration of one of Clapton's FTC Model SCGC guitars from 1980. This carved back F cutaway went through some of the more colorful chapters of Clapton's career, and suffered some unfortunate trauma. It was left on a tarmac in the Caribbean for 24 hours, suffered several other mishaps, was built and rebuilt by different people around the world, until it came back to us for a complete restoration. We kept as much of the original parts as possible, as per Clapton’s wishes, as well as the historical integrity, while making it every bit as refined as the guitars we build today. This is the same guitar pictured in the liner notes of Clapton's album, Another Ticket... he owned two more of these FTC models, which he auctioned off for more than $35,000 each, and then supposedly bought them back to keep in his personal collection. A big thanks to all the luthiers here at SCGC for their hard work in completing this restoration. Below are a few shots of the restoration process and completed guitar, and more, larger photos can be viewed on our blog
