Santa Cruz Guitar Company

Everybody Needs a Purpose:

For years, folks have been asking Richard what his secret is. And believe it or not, he tells everyone! There are many things that set us apart from both the large guitar manufacturers and other small, boutique builders. If you aren’t aware of them all, we invite you to read our Declaration of Purpose, which goes into detail on everything that makes your Santa Cruz Guitar a truly handmade, heirloom quality instrument. Click here to read the Declaration via the website.

Who Wants to Hang Out in Austin?

The Santa Cruz Guitar Company will be at the SXSW Music Festival this year! We’ll be showing guitars in Exhibit Hall 2 of the Gear Alley Expo in the Austin Convention Center from Wednesday, March 16th through Saturday the 19th… and we’re looking for artists! If you are in the Austin area or plan to be at SXSW this year, let us know! We’d love for you to come by the booth to talk with Richard and demo our guitars for the masses. And if you’re performing at the festival with your Santa Cruz, we’d love to come support you! Drop us an email

Thanks for reading!
Until next time…

~ Richard & Co.

Greetings friends and fellow guitar players!

We thought it was high time we checked in with you all again… we hope the new year is off to a great start for everyone! Things are bustling here in Santa Cruz; thanks to the success of the winter NAMM show, some great recent press and all of you spreading the word about our guitars (thank you!). Due to the current high demand for our instruments, the back order goes out into September for deliveries right now, so let your local dealer know soon if you are hoping to get a guitar for fall or winter!

The Ever Updating Website:
For those of you who have been with us for awhile, welcome to the new fangled version of our newsletter! And for those new to the club, the fun doesn’t stop here. We invite you to visit our website as often as possible to see what our dealers have in stock (via the Dealer Inventory Page), photos and specs of guitars that have recently shipped all over the country (via the Just Shipped Page) and what’s new and exciting for Santa Cruz Guitar Company (via the SCGC Blog). Use our website as a resource for all your Santa Cruz needs! Not only can you find what dealer is carrying the guitar you’re after, but you can use these collective resources to get ideas for your personal custom instrument. Don’t forget that over 60% of what we do is custom work, so whatever your aesthetic or tonal requests may be, we can make your dream guitar a reality. Many of our dealers are currently stocking custom SCGC guitars as well, based on their customer preferences or personal whimsy, so be sure to see what your local dealer has in stock – your one of a kind Santa Cruz might already be waiting for you.

2011 NAMM Show: NAMM was quite a successful trip for us this year! We had a stellar line-up of guitars, with representation from almost all models, tone woods and finishes. We presented two new signature models, the OO-Skye (for Portland’s premier jazz fingerstylist Eric Skye) and The Cowboy Singer (the Don Edwards 50th Anniversary Signature Model), which happened to win “Editor’s Pick for Day 1” at NAMM. (Don and Eric are pictured above, holding their respective signature models). We had an amazing turnout of musicians who played our booth, including Otis Taylor, Bill Nershi, Scott Law, Eric Skye, Tim Connell, Don Edwards, SONiA, Gretchen Menn and Jude Gold. We posted lots of photos of the weekend on our SCGC blog, which you can access here

The People are Speaking: The ballot is now open for Acoustic Guitar Magazine’s 2011 Player’s Choice Awards, so visit their website and vote for your favorite Santa Cruz!  This public contest gives people a chance to vote on their favorite gear, including acoustic, steel string guitars. Almost the complete line of Santa Cruz Guitars is represented. We’re grateful to all our loyal customers for voting us the coveted medals for Acoustic Guitar of the Year, Small Bodied Guitar of the Year and Mid-sized Manufacturer of the Year since 2000.  Let's all vote and go for the gold once more!

We love hearing from you: We’ve been getting so many nice emails from you all recently; we decided to post them (with your indvidual permission of course) on our website! Check out our Testimonials Page to read what your fellow players and Santa Cruz enthusiasts have to say about our instruments… and if you’d like to chime in, send us your comments as well! We’d love to hear all about your experience with Santa Cruz, and any way we can make the guitar acquisition process more enjoyable for everyone.
