Richard's workshop at Artisan Guitars... new cases from Acoustic Remedy... Moon Spruce... Player's Choice Awards...
Happy summer everyone! We hope your days are filled with swimming holes, baseball games and lemonade stands. We are busy as ever here in Santa Cruz, fulfilling your guitar orders and hatching exciting future plans. In the meantime, below are some upcoming events and news!

Richard Hoover will be giving a workshop at Artisan Guitars on Saturday, July 19th, to coincide with the Nashville NAMM weekend. Richard will be discussing everything from traditional lutherie techniques, to designing your custom Santa Cruz Guitar, to running a small, sustainable guitar shop for almost 38 years. Space is limited, so please email our friends at Artisan Guitars to reserve your space now. The event is Saturday, July 19th from 3-5pm. Click here for more info.

Santa Cruz Guitar Company is pleased to now be working with Acoustic Remedy Cases. This small wood shop is creating one-of-a-kind cases to protect and display our prized acoustics. And best of all, they are totally in line with our philosophies, building cases out of sustainably harvested woods, made in the USA by Amish craftsman.  They offer floor and wall mounted models, in-case humidification, and you can even customize the woods, bindings and aesthetics to match your Santa Cruz Guitar. All Santa Cruz Guitar owners get a special $100 discount when they use the following promotional code at checkout: SCGC2014. For more information, visit their website, or email us.

During his latest wood adventure in Europe, Richard spent some quality time with a family in Switzerland who has been practicing sustainable harvesting of European Spruce for the last 500 years.  This is the same wood that we have referred to as Italian Spruce, but as you can imagine, trees don't recognize international borders.

This family's time tested tradition is to cut the high quality timbers based on the same forces that create ocean tides, when the moon has its least point of gravitational pull. By harvesting this Spruce at night and at these specific times of the year, they can minimize the amount of moisture and resins in the finished timbers.  World renowned violin makers swear by its resonance, claiming that this wood is better sounding a year after it is harvested then common practice Spruce is in fifteen years. Richard secured some sets and looks forward to hearing our guitars under this lunar influence. Here is a nice shot of Richard with his good friend and legendary builder Claudio Pagelli, celebrating their recent purchase.

A big thanks to all those who voted for us in Acoustic Guitar Magazine's 2014 Player's Choice Awards! We are honored to take home the bronze medal for Small Scale Manufacturer even though Acoustic Guitar Magazine accidentally left us out of the drop down choices for some categories. They released this statement: Due to a clerical error that may have affected the outcome of the polling, Santa Cruz Guitar Company was inadvertently left out of the voting for the following categories: Small-Bodied Flattop, Dreadnought, and Mid-size Flattop.

We're still pleased as punch to have done so well without being a voting option, and greatly appreciate everyone taking the time to write us in.

If you haven't caught the new video on SCGC filmed by LR Baggs, here it is! We couldn't be happier with this honest peek into living and working in Santa Cruz at our small shop, set to the wonderful tunes of our very own Cowboy Singer, Don Edwards. We invite you to watch it, and help share our story with family and friends.

That's all for now... we hope everyone has a fun and safe 4th of July! If your summer plans bring you to the Santa Cruz Boardwalk, give a call to sign up for one of our shop tours on Thursdays at 2:30pm or Fridays at 10am.

Until then...
