Happy Summer everyone!

We hope you are all finding time to play guitar in the outdoors, be it by the beach, in the woods or on a stoop. Many of you have been emailing or facebook-ing us with photos and comments about your Santa Cruz Guitars… keep it coming! We love hearing how you’re enjoying your instrument and where in the world you’ve been taking it. Things are cooking here in Santa Cruz, and we’ve been busier than ever. We have some big news about our 35th anniversary celebration this fall, so let’s get right to it!

Summer NAMM 2011

From Thursday, July 21st – Saturday July 23rd, Richard Hoover will be in Nashville for the 2011 Summer NAMM Show. This year Richard wanted to do things a little differently, and he definitely got his wish! In honor of our 35th Anniversary celebration this year, we are building a series of ten 35th Anniversary Guitars featuring our lovely Santa Cruz Cowgirl (to be named later… see the ‘Name That Cowgirl’ contest to the right). These ten commemorative 35th Anniversary guitars are tastefully customized SCGC OOO models, with a retail value of $9,700. Cocobolo back/sides and Italian Spruce tops compliment intricate, western-themed appointments and inlays which incorporate mother of pearl, scrimshaw and fossilized ivory. And if that wasn’t enough, in addition to this series of ten, Richard Hoover will also be displaying a One-Of-A-Kind 35th Anniversary Showpiece. This master grade Brazilian OOO with Adirondack top and tastefully extravagant appointments will retail at $23,200.  We don’t want to give away all our secrets before the show, so those at summer NAMM will get the first peek at all the details and artwork that make up this extraordinary guitar and it’s accompanying limited edition series of ten… one of which will be won by one of you! How’s that for a tongue twisting segue…

Name That Cowgirl Contest!

In celebration of our big birthday this fall, we are building a total of ten 35th Anniversary Commemorative Guitars. In the spirit of Richard’s western roots and our love of cowboy lore, these limited edition 10 guitars will feature our darling Santa Cruz Cowgirl on the peghead. What’s her name? Well that’s up to you! In order to include you all in our celebration, we are holding a contest to ‘Name That Cowgirl.’ The winner takes home one of the rare 35th Anniversary Cowgirl Guitars, with a retail value of $9,700. Not too bad for just naming a lady! All contest rules and regulations, as well as the entry form, are available on the Santa Cruz Guitar Company website starting today, July 21st, to coincide with the 2011 Summer NAMM Show.  To enter, contestants simply need to purchase a Santa Cruz Guitar Company 35th Anniversary tee shirt for $35 via the SCGC website. Once purchased, contestants will be prompted to ‘Name That Cowgirl’ inlayed on the guitar’s peghead and pictured on the website. The winning name will be selected based on originality and creativity, and all entries will be judged anonymously by the Santa Cruz Guitar Company. The winner will be selected on October 1st, 2011, and notified by Monday, October 3rd, 2011. Visit the website now to enter!

East Coast Workshops

After a weekend in Nashville, Richard is high tailing it to the East Coast to hold some entertaining and educational workshops… hopefully at a guitar shop near you! Rudy’s Music Stop Soho (NYC), Acoustic Music Org (Guildford, CT), Caruso Music (New London, CT) and The Music Emporium (Lexington, MA) are all hosting Richard Hoover for an evening of all things acoustic. Attendees will learn how to design a custom guitar to fit their specific playing style, sound requirements and personal aesthetic values.  Richard Hoover launched the Santa Cruz Guitar Company in 1976, and has never strayed from his original objective of using traditional lutherie methods in an intimate team setting. The idea of building his acoustic guitars by hand and working exclusively with independently owned guitar shops was a breakthrough idea at that time. He has traveled all over the world to procure responsibly harvested woods and is known internationally as a forefather of the boutique acoustic guitar industry. His workshops cover everything from internet myth busting, acoustic science and engineering, tone woods and the cowboy way. Please see dates, shops and times below, and help make Richard feel welcomed by guitar players in your home town. This is a rare event… not to be missed!

What’s an Anniversary year without an Anniversary party? We are gearing up to host a mighty celebration the evening of Friday, September 30th, 2011. Details and musician line-up will be announced shortly (prepare for greatness), but if you’re not local to the West Coast, start looking into your travel arrangements now! We’d love to have you all in attendance, and nothing’s better than a fall weekend in Santa Cruz… the beach, the Redwoods, the boardwalk, Hitchcock’s birds… you can’t go wrong. Feel free to contact us via the website if you have any travel questions.
As always, thank you for your support and good wishes. Keep visiting your local guitar shops and showing them you appreciate their presence in your town. And keep visiting our website for SCGC Blog updates, the Just Shipped Page and the Dealer Inventory Page. We hope to see you at either NAMM, one of Richard’s East Coast Workshops or at our Anniversary party in the fall… and even if you can’t be there, we hope to see you sporting a commemorative 35th Anniversary tee shirt soon! We leave you now with our recent OO-Skye ad from Acoustic Guitar Magazine, featuring our beloved master fingerstylist, Eric Skye, and a video sent to us by Ruben van Valderen, a 17 year old from the Netherlands, playing his OM/PW.
