When is The Best Time To Do Physical Inventory Counts?

We’ve heard this referred to as the “End of the Year Surprise,” where you suddenly discover that you’ve been carrying way more inventory than you thought; or not enough. Either way, it’s not a pleasant surprise!

So when is the best time to tackle this unpleasant but necessary chore? Here's what the warehouse management experts at ScanForce recommend.

Welcome to the Schulz Says email newsletter.

We publish every Thursday with news of interest to Sage 100 users and consultants.

Happy Day After Thanksgiving ( this actually shows as a holiday name in my Google Calendar ). I hope everyone had a great day off to spend time with family and friends!

Today's issue is brief as the holidays are normally a slower time for news. Please enjoy the rest of the holiday week and as always, thanks you for being a subscriber!

How to determine if third-party products are installed in Sage 100 or Error occurs with a third-party program in Sage 100

Have you encountered an error with Sage 100 and wondered whether a third-party enhancement might be the cause?  Diagnosing these issues and especially determining whether it's the fault of Sage 100 or a third-party enhancement can be tricky.

Here are a few tips that can help speed up the process and allow you to know if you have third-party enhancements installed to Sage 100.
  1. Check the Installed Modules listing ( Modules, Library Master, Reports). Many times if you have enhancements to Sage 100 they will be listed on this report.
  2. Some programs listed in error messages are obviously from a third party. The name of the program would include the module code followed by a number and an underscore or the code followed by an underscore and a number.
  3. The "..\MAS90\Links" folder (on the server where Sage 100 is installed) may contain third-party program files other than Default.pvc. Any program file in that directory other than Default.pvc indicates the existence of third-party program enhancement(s).
  4. Standard Sage 100 Business Framework program files typically do not have numbers in their file names.

Sage Issues Hot Fix for Sage Intelligence Compliance with OAuth

I haven't run across this issue (yet), but Sage has a helpful KB that talks about setting up Sage Intelligence distribution settings with Office 365, which also includes a hotfix for OAuth Authentication.

There is also an Office 365 Application Registration document which contains screenshots of how to perform the setup. I suggest downloading the document and saving it for future reference.

TLS 1.2 Compliance Update for Sage 100

Sage released an updated chart showing versions of Sage 100 compatible with an upcoming change at Sage.

Beginning in October 2023, Sage License Servers ( SLS ) will no longer accept communication using the less secure TLS 1.0 and 1.1 protocols. This means if your Sage 100 version is not at least one of those listed below you'll want to upgrade before October 2023.

After October 2023 if your Sage 100 ( subscription ) is not at one of the supported versions shown below your data may go into a read-only mode once your systems fails to login to SLS.

My suggestion is you set a goal to stay within 2 versions of the current release which is Sage 100 2022.

Sage Fixed Assets Upgrade Path

If you've ever upgraded Sage Fixed Assets, then you may know that not all versions can be upgraded directly to the most recent version. Some versions require that you make interim upgrades before ultimately installing the most current release.

Here's a quick summary of the rules:
  • If updating from 2019.1, 2019.1.1 or 2019.1.2 you can either:
    • Uninstall the 2019.1 and install 2022.1 and convert the database(s)
    • Or first update to 2020.1 then update to 2021.1, convert the database(s) and then update to 2022.1
  • If updating from 2018.1, you can either:
    • Uninstall the 2018.1 and install 2020.1, convert the database(s) then uninstall the 2020.1 and then install 2022.1 and convert the database(s)
    • Or uninstall the 2018.1 and install 2020.1, convert the database(s) and then update to 2021.1, convert the database(s) and then update to
    • 2022.1
  • If updating from 2017.1 or prior the databases cannot be converted directly to 2019.1. They will appear with a Conversion Status of Incompatible Version and will require a Sage Expert Services engagement to update. See How do I contact Sage Expert Services? (62949) for details
  • If updating from 2013.0 - 2021.1 and moving to a new system and creating new databases in the new installation the Company Backup file (*.BBK) can restore directly into the 2022.1 product
