New & Improved Date!
MCBC 'Covid Business Survival Awards'

We decided to put off our gala event until all of the holiday madness has subsided. So, please mark your calendar for the “new and improved” date of Friday evening, Feb. 24, from 6-9 p.m. Instead of a normal celebration of what would be the Monterey County Business Council’s 25th anniversary, we’re going to call this event our “Covid Business Survival Awards.” We’ll have fun while we honor some of the businesses and people who have successfully weathered the storm of the last few years. $195 per person (we should mention it’s at Pebble Beach’s posh Inn at Spanish Bay). Click here to register. For sponsorship opportunities, please email our CEO at Kimbley@MCBC.biz.

Administration launches $50 million program to help nonprofits make critical energy upgrades

Eligible nonprofits can apply for funding in individual grants of up to $200,000 to make critical energy upgrades at their buildings so they can direct more resources toward mission-driven work in their communities. Through this pilot program, the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) will identify scalable models for energy efficiency retrofits in both the nonprofit and other commercial sectors.
DOE encourages applicants that have not traditionally been the recipient of past DOE grant programs to respond to the RFI. The information collected from this RFI will be used by DOE for planning purposes to develop a potential Funding Opportunity Announcement.
The deadline to submit a response to this RFI is Dec. 22, 2022, by 2 p.m. PT (5 p.m. ET). Only electronic responses sent to NonProfitRFI@doe.gov will be accepted. Download the Request for Information to see the full list of questions and instructions on how to submit a response.

Aera provides capstone funding for Gateway Center to purchase mobility van for clients

Residents and clients of Gateway Center will now have an easier time getting to appointments and activities thanks to a new wheelchair-accessible Ford electric transport van made possible by community businesses and organizations.

The Transportation Agency for Monterey County (MCBC member) provided an initial $60,000 grant for the vehicle purchase and Aera Energy (MCBC member), Vistra Corp. and the Landman Trust stepped in to provide the rest. The center gives about 1,000 rides for free or at no cost to 100 Monterey County developmentally disabled residents, clients, and community members every year and about 500 rides every year to clients who use wheelchairs with a van that can transport one wheelchair passenger at a time. The new van will more than double the number of rides they can give with two spots accommodating a wheelchair.
