Lock Your Loan! Mortgage Interest Rates Rose—Again

Are you arranging a home mortgage right now? If so, you’d better lock in that loan. For the second week in a row, mortgage interest rates increased, according to Freddie Mac.
 
The average weekly interest rate for a 30-year fixed-rate mortgage rose to 3.76%, up from 3.69% last week, according to the Primary Mortgage Market Survey. This time last year, the rate averaged 4.33%.

Home Prices Are Up, Supply Is Down—Expect Bidding Wars

It’s getting more expensive to buy a house. Prices rose 6% in the fourth quarter of 2014 as buyers competed for fewer and fewer available homes for sale, according to new data from the National Association of Realtors®.
 
The NAR report shows most cities (86%) are experiencing rising prices, with fewer available homes to choose from. Just 24 cities, or 14%, recorded lower median prices in 2014 than in 2013.

ASU report: Metro Phoenix home prices hit 7-year high

Metro Phoenix's housing market ended 2014 on a high, after several months of flat prices and sagging sales.
 
Valley home sales climbed 29 percent during December, and the area's median home sales price increased 2 percent to $215,000, according to new report from the W. P. Carey School of Business at Arizona State University.

Arizona's economy poised to warm up in 2015, reports say

Arizona's economy, which grew in line with the nation last year, could perk up with a faster pace of expansion in 2015, according to new forecasts.
 
Robert Kavcic, senior economist at BMO Capital Markets, sees Arizona's economy advancing 3.5 percent in 2015, beating expected U.S. growth of 3.1 percent. Both the state and the nation grew at around 2.5 percent last year, BMO estimates, with final numbers still not in.
