Annapolis MLK Day rally for police reform

Police reform now!  Representatives from the Maryland Coalition for Justice and Police Accountability -- MCCRC is a proud member -- will hold a press conference, rally, and die-in at 7 pm on January 18th, MLK Day, at Lawyers Mall in Annapolis.

Check for details and updates at the Black Lives Matter Maryland event page. Let MCCRC activists know you're coming at our own Facebook event page -- you can volunteer to carpool or ask for a ride here.

While recent police reform recommendations by an Annapolis legislative "working group" are a good start, we have serious problems with some of them -- especially one that would all but gut progress towards civilian review of police wrongdoing, even *enhancing* police union influence over administrative hearings on police use of force.

We haven't come this far to let politicians and lobbyists snatch victory away from us at the last minute.  Join us next Monday!

Freedom to boycott lobby night, Jan 25

For the second time in three years the Maryland General Assembly may consider legislation to kill free speech rights for those who take a dissenting view on the Middle East. This time they are likely to consider a bill that would blacklist companies that participate in the Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions movement (to support human rights in Palestine), prohibiting the State of Maryland from doing business with them.

Will you defend dissent by contacting your legislators today? The right to boycott has been affirmed by the Supreme Court, and -- together with the Bill of Rights Defense Committee/Defending Dissent Foundation and the Freedom2Boycott coalition -- we don’t plan to let the Maryland General Assembly deny that right to people in the Free State!

You can participate in our campaign in two ways:
1) Send an email to your legislators today
2) Join us in Annapolis for a statewide advocacy evening on January 25! (any time between 5-9pm)

More on the issue here.

Support "Maryland Welcomes Refugees"! Join at the new web site and learn how you can help.
We haven't forgotten about Guantanamo, and we know you haven't either.  Join our petition to local congressional members to hold the Pentagon accountable for its footdragging, and join others in our photo "Close Guantanamo" campaign!
Thanks for all you do!
