Action alert - support Takoma Park refugee resolution on Monday
Help send a message from our communities: refugees are welcome
Recently, a regrettable number of governors -- including Maryland's Governor Larry Hogan -- attempted to reject resettlement of Syrian refugees in their states. Please join us at the first Takoma Park City Council meeting after Thanksgiving, as the city council votes on a resolution affirming our commitment to a city, state, and country that welcome refugees from Syria instead of rejecting or stigmatizing them.
The meeting is on Monday, November 30 at the Takoma Park Community Center (7500 Maple Avenue); it starts at 7:30pm, and the refugee resolution will be the first item on the agenda at 8pm. A majority of councilmembers favor a positive statement and possibly action about Syrian refugees, but the exact text of the resolution is not available yet.
Use our Facebook event page or forward this email to invite your friends! And bring your enthusiasm, and any prepared remarks (3 minutes or less, about 400 words)! Whether or not you can tell the council Monday night, we'll be glad to share your statements of support with the world on the Montgomery County Civil Rights Coalition blog.
