Since 9/11, the national security and surveillance state has run amok under both the Bush and Obama administrations. “The top-secret world the government created in response to the terrorist attacks of Sept. 11, 2001, has become so large, so unwieldy and so secretive that no one knows how much money it costs, how many people it employs, how many programs exist within it or exactly how many agencies do the same work.” Click here for a video movie trailer.

National "Stop Watching Us" rally Sat Oct 26
Join us!  On Saturday, October 26 — the 12th anniversary of the signing of the USA PATRIOT Act — as thousands of people from across the political spectrum unite in Washington, D.C. to proclaim: Enough is enough. Stop watching us.  StopWatching.Us is a diverse coalition of more than 100 organizations including the ACLU, Bill of Rights Defense Committee, ColorOfChange, Restore the Fourth, Rights Working Group -- and MCCRC. We're working towards the biggest mass protest of the NSA’s surveillance programs to date.  Sign up to attend!

Petition: Van Hollen, Delaney wrong on NSA
Please add your voice to our petition expressing deep disappointment with Congressmen Van Hollen and Delaney for their July votes against the Amash-Conyers amendment that would have stopped NSA surveillance.  The petition also urges them to co-sponsor and vote for legislation prohibiting bulk collection of our communications metadata under the PATRIOT Act and FISA Amendments Act, providing for review of violations in a real, public court, and investigating those responsible for the surveillance programs revealed so far.

More you can do
  • Technology has accelerated in the last 5 years alone -- so can an "Electronic Privacy Communications Privacy Act of 1986" really protect you in 2013?  We don't think so either.  Visit vanishingrights.com and call on Congress to update our electronic privacy laws.
  • Make informed email, encryption, browser, and other software choices: consult "PRISM-Break"
  • Check out our own blog series by Bill Day, "Protecting Your Online Privacy."

Thanks for all you do!
