Halloween Happenings Around Greater Pasadena


Head down to Old Pasadena for store-to-store trick-or-treating, a Halloween-themed family portrait, and a free movie in the One Colorado Courtyard.

 

Sierra Madre celebrates Halloween with small-town flair. There's a Halloween parade led by the Sierra Madre fire department, store-to-store trick-or-treating, and a costume contest.

 

Old Town Monrovia hosts a Halloween bash with a costume contest for kids and dogs, games, crafts, trick-or-treating, and more!

Teen Night at "Escapegoat"

Your teen (grades 8-12) can join Boston Court Pasadena, TeenTix, and the Altadena Public Library for Teen Night at Escapegoat on Friday, November 4, from 7:00 PM to 9:30 PM. Tickets are just $5 for teens with discount code: TeenNight. See the event listing for more details.

Dia de Los Muertos Family Arts and Crafts

Your family can join the Bob Lucas Branch librarians in celebrating Dia de Los Muertos on October 27 from 3:30 PM to 5:00 PM. Bring photos of loved ones who have passed and create hand-crafted mementos to honor them.


 

Spooktacular Stories @ Annual Halloween Bash

Boo At The Zoo

The LA Zoo's annual Halloween celebration is back for another year. It runs from October 1 through 31, with activities throughout the zoo. There are even trick-or-treat stations on the last two weekends of the month. Learn more here.
 



 

Muddy Boot Farm

Kidspace welcomes you and your kids to their new outdoor exhibit, Muddy Boot Farm, where everyone can play growing, harvesting, and selling their crops while learning how farms work and plants grow. The exhibit is free with your paid Kidspace admission or membership. Keep in mind events at the Rose Bowl impact Kidspace, so please check the hours of operation and reserve your arrival tickets in advance.
 




 

Halloween At Kidspace

What's billed as the "most adorable" Halloween celebration happens at Kidspace Children's Museum from October 1 through 31. Everyone is welcome to participate in costume parades, mask making, and for a modest fee, pumpkin carving. You'll even visit with some not-too-scary Halloween animal friends. Learn more here.

Your family (ages 4+) can join the LA County Librarians and Flights of Fantasy Story Theatre for some virtual spine-tingling fun on October 27 at 4:00 PM. Registration is required.

 


 

Night at the Library

Your teens (ages 13-19) can join the Altadena librarians for an after-hours hang and ghost hunt using the "Ghost Hunters Kit" on October 28 from 7:00 PM to 8:30 PM. Refreshments will be provided. See the event listing for more details.

Your family can join the La Pintoresca Branch librarians in dressing as zombies and enjoying a dance revolution as part of the branch's annual zombie movie on October 25 from 3:30 PM to 5:30 PM.

Your preschooler can join the Santa Catalina Branch librarians in exploring the science of pumpkins with stories and activities on October 22 from 10:30 AM to 11:30 AM.

Your tweens, teen, and young-adult-lit-loving adults can join the Hastings Branch librarians for a panel discussion and book signing with several young adult authors on October 22 from 3:00 PM to 4:30 PM. There will even be a book giveaway and book signing. No registration is required. Check the event listing for the list of authors attending. 

 


 

Kids Writing Workshop

Your young writers (ages 9-12) can join the Hastings Branch librarians for an afternoon of writing and learning how to create suspense and scary stories on October 22 from 4:00 PM to 5:00 PM. Registration is required.

Around the World Crafts at Bob Lucas: Chile

Your family can join the Bob Lucas Branch librarians in exploring the world through crafts. This month you can make rainsticks from Chile on November 2 from 3:30 PM to 4:30 PM. Registration is required.


Virtual Reality @PPL

Your Teens (ages 13+) and adults can take VR for a spin at the Hastings Branch Library on October 25 and November 3 from 4:00 PM to 5:00 PM. The Oculus Quest setup provides the full VR experience. Registration required. A parent or guardian must sign a waiver either online beforehand or on-site.

 


 

Pasadena Grows: Witchy Herbs

Your teens and herb-loving adults can join the Hill Avenue Branch librarians online to learn about the history and uses of homegrown herbs in homemade remedies on October 29 from 10:30 AM to 11:30 AM. Registration is required

 


 

Take & Make: Autumn Leaf Crown

Your family can join the Santa Catalina Branch librarians in making a beautiful leaf crown. Craft kits can be reserved by calling the library at 626-744-7272 starting November 1 and while supplies last.

 


 

Take & Make: Woven Basket

Your family (ages 6+) can join the Jefferson Branch librarians in celebrating Native American Heritage Month by creating a Navajo-inspired woven basket. Registration for craft kits opens November 1 through November 30 or while supplies last.

 


 

Novel Writing for Kids

Your tween (ages 9-12) can join the Hasting Branch librarians for four weekly meetings with writing exercises for planning and polishing a novel. Registration is required. Writing sessions are on November 1, 8, 14, and 29 from 4:30 PM to 5:30 PM.

 


 

Abacus at Your Fingertips

Your kid (ages 5-12) can join Polytechnic High's Sienna and the La Pintoresca Branch librarians in building their math skills and confidence on November 3, 10, and 17 from 4:30 PM to 5:00 PM. Registration is required.

These events are regularly scheduled, and many do not require registrations. That said, please check with the event host in case of holidays, weather, COVID, or other reasons to cancel or reschedule.
 




Board Game Night

Your family can join others and the Altadena librarians in an evening of board game fun on Mondays through December 19, from 5:30 PM to 7:30 PM. No registration is required.

 


 

Chess Night

Your family can join other chess lovers and the Altadena librarians in an evening of chess-inspired fun on Tuesdays through November 22, from 5:30 PM to 7:30 PM. No registration is required.
 


 

Afternoon Games

The whole family is invited to the Villa Parke Community Center Branch Library to play games, from board games to giant dominos. The fun happens on Tuesdays, from 2:00 PM till 4:00 PM.

 


 

Infant & Toddler Storytimes

Your little ones (ages 0-2) and their caregiver can join the Pasadena librarians weekly at 10:30 AM for 20 minutes of reading, rhyming, and singing fun!

Preschool Storytime - Pasadena Public Libraries

Your kids (ages 3-5) can join the Pasadena librarians weekly for a selection of stories, songs, crafts, or a short movie. Activities vary by branch.

Santa Catalina Branch - Wednesday, 10:30 AM till 11:00 AM

Family Films

Villa Parke Community Center Branch hosts a family movie for you on Thursdays, from 3:30 PM till 5:30 PM. Please contact the branch at 626-744-6510 for the movie title. And this is a BYOS (bring your own snacks) event.

 


 

Video Game Club

Your Teen (age 14-19) can stop into the Hastings Branch Library Meeting Room on Thursdays, from 4:00 PM till 6:00 PM, for some gaming fun on the Nintendo Switch. They can make new friends and learn fair play every week. No registration is required. Must play well with others.

 


 

Crafting with Tish & Tosh

Join the Pasadena Library online for some all-ages crafting fun. You'll learn new crafts all year round. The crafting fun happens on every-other Monday on Instagram Live from 3:00 PM till 3:30 PM.

 



Teen Switch Hour

Your Tweens (ages 8-12) can join the Altadena librarians for some Nintendo Switch fun playing Mario Kart, Mario Party, and Smash Brothers every Thursday from 4:00 PM till 5:00 PM in the Main Library's Community Room. The library has a limited number of systems available. You are welcome to bring your own Switch. .

 


 

Innovation Lab

Your kids (ages 6-11) can join the Monrovia librarians every month as they explore different STEM-related activities. No registration is required. Supplies are available on a first-come, first-serve basis. Each event runs from 3:00 PM till 4:30 PM on the following dates:
