Dozens of things to do for you and your whole family.
YOUR PICK OF THE LITTER

Awards season has started. The Golden Globes just aired, and many more are on the way. That got me thinking about the events different venues have put on over the last year for our kids. We list more than 500 every year.

Why shouldn't those venues and their staff be recognized for their creativity and work? Well, now they will be.

Introducing The Orange Cat Picks of the Litter Awards!

Here are the categories:

  • Most Creative Storytime: It takes more than just reading in a circle to win. This award is for the storytime that adds something more like a theme or creative location to make the experience extra special for everyone involved.
  • Best Teen Programming: Teens can be fickle, and their attention fleeting. And, frankly, it takes more work to put together events for them. This award is for programming that leans into the challenge to create something unique and fun.
  • Most Diverse Programming: It's a big, multi-faceted world we live in, and this award is for programming that reflects that fact to our kids to help them grow into well-rounded, empathetic people.
  • Best Summer Activities: Summertime fun time is much more enjoyable with activities that take advantage of all our community offers during those long, hot summer days. This award is for the venue that puts together programming that reflects the spirit of summer creativity and play.
  • Editor's Choice Award: Often, a handful of events catch our eye for their creativity, engagement, or long-time value to the community. This award is for those exceptional events.
  • Reader's Choice Award: We're nothing without you, and all the events we list are for you and your families. This award is for your favorite event or venue.

Now, here's how you vote for the Reader's Choice Award and what's in it for you.

To vote, just reply to this email with your favorite event or venue from 2022. It can be an event we listed (or not) or a venue we always cover (or not - looking at you, California Science Center). Or you can comment on this issue's Facebook post. Either way will work.

All entries must be received by January 21, 2023, at noon Pacific Time.

What's in it for you? Well, we're going to choose one of the submissions at random and provide a gift card to A Kids Co, publishers of the A Kids Book About series. These are great books for you and your kids. You'll love them!

Awards and the winner of the drawing will be announced in the next issue of The Orange Cat.

Happy voting!

Rob
