AICM News

February 2017

What does the AICM mean to you?

For some it's qualifications, (such as the Diploma of Credit Management or the CCE) for others it's the insights gained from credit management experts in presentations and publications and for others it's being able to connect with the only people that know what it is like to be a credit manager, other credit managers.

One part of the AICM that members aren't always aware of is our involvement in initiatives that shape the credit and general business world.

Our recent involvements include:
- Research into Phoenix Activity
- New policy allowing ATO to lodge defaults
- Payment times inquiry with ASBFEO and state Small Business Commissioners
- Lobbying for changes to unfair preference claims legislation

ACCC to target unfair contracts

The Chairman of the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission Rod Sims says 2017 will see its enforcement teams hone in on:
- misleading and deceptive practices,
- anti-competitive conduct, and
- unfair contract terms affecting small businesses.

If you haven't reviewed your contracts and processes as a result of the Unfair Contracts Legislation extending to small business from 12 November 2017 don't delay.

If you search unfair contracts on the AICM website you'll find relevant articles to get you up to date with this important change for all that trade with small business.

Mandatory reporting of late payments

Kate Carnell, the Australian Small Business and Family Enterprise Ombudsman, is proposing a range of initiatives to improve the way big business pays small business, including requiring all businesses to report late payers as well as simplified legal enforcement and positive reporting of prompt payers.

This proposal is one of those being considered by the Payment Times Inquiry of which the AICM is a partner. The inquiry is looking into the causes and effects of late payments in Australia.

As a credit professional your views on payment times in Australia are sought, via this 20 questions survey, to ensure effective solutions are generated by the inquiry.

You can do it

Do you consider yourself an experienced and competent credit professional?  Then obtaining your CCE will prove this to yourself and your peers.

The Certified Credit Executive status is the symbol of a credit professional with extensive experience in credit management.

In March we will launch the "classroom" exam method of assessment in addition to the established online exam and essay.

Now there is an option to suit your style and no reason to not do the CCE exam.
