November 2021
Dear Friends,

I do hope you are well.  We are excited to begin to lock in dates for events as restrictions continue to loosen. We have lots of exciting events planned and are working on ways to run events in other states.

These events serve as powerful tools in creating community connections and we know how important this is to children, young people, and their families.

Our 2021 Annual General Meeting (AGM) is approaching. You are welcome to join us online as we reflect on the 20/21 Financial Year, the events, programs, and services we delivered, together with video highlights starring the wonderful people we support.

This year has been one of change: we continue to adopt an agile operational strategy to provide essential services to participants. As we adapt and define how we deliver supports, and launch new resources, we have refreshed our brand and website. The fresh look of our brand is aligned with our website which is more accessible, contemporary, and easier to navigate and use.

As we head toward the holiday season, we are delighted to launch our Platypus Playhouse festive cards, that you can send to family and friends. The cards share the gift of language as you can learn to sign festive greetings in Auslan.

We extended the submission deadline for our Art Competition until the 23rd of January. This is because we received feedback that young people were struggling with managing study commitments and the impact of rolling lockdowns.

We welcome your feedback and ideas to help us deliver what you need, enjoy this edition.

Best Wishes,

David Wilson
CEO, Deaf Children Australia

Furry Tales (0-5yrs) and Pet Parade (6-11yrs)
On the 26th of November, we'll be running a couple of activities with RSPCA Victoria. If you and your child are animal lovers or just like to watch cute animals be their cute selves on the internet, this is for you!

RSCPA will be running this one-time only live presentation where you will be introduced to small animals (e.g. guinea pigs, rabbits), and learn about their care. This is a behind-the-scenes look at RSPCA's barn and the cute critters it houses. You will also learn about what the RSPCA does, together with Auslan signs for the animals you will meet.

Our team is running a survey to identify what types of free resources local community groups and clubs need to support DHH children and youth. You can access the survey here, it takes only 5 minutes.
