On Sunday Nov. 13th we will be giving thanks
for 50 Years of ministry together.
In 1972, the Cedar Rapids Church of the Brethren and First Baptist Church
started sharing worship and church school together.
We will be having a service of Giving Thanks at 10:15 AM
followed by our annual Thanksgiving Dinner.

The ABWM Maxine Bates Circle of Fairfield First Baptist has taken on a new project! This fall we began assembling “Birthday Bags” for the Lord’s Cupboard, a local food pantry for Jefferson County. These bags contain party supplies such as a cake mix, frosting, candles, napkins, plates, party favors and various decorations. Eligible recipients are Lord’s Cupboard clients ages 1-17 years. The bags can be claimed any time during the month of their birthday. In the photos, circle members are seen packing and delivering our first supply of 23. As some of our members also volunteer in the Cupboard, they often get to witness the look of delight on the faces of clients when receiving the surprises in the bags. Such a fun project!

Advent in a Post-Pandemic World: Rethinking our Worship
on Tuesday, November 29, 2022 at 3:00pm ET
with presenters Rev. Dr. Marvin McMickle
and Rev. Mindi Welton-Mitchell.
Advent is the season of watching and waiting for signs of Christ’s presence in our world and in our lives in a new way. In the northern hemisphere, this happens at the darkest time of the year, and it is in the darkness that we see things differently. Darkness is not negative; darkness allows us to see in new ways as we prepare for the return of daylight. In this “pre-post-pandemic” world, what is the darkness revealing to us? What did we learn over the past two years that helps us to prepare for Christ, to recognize the incarnate God in our world and in our lives, as we prepare for a new post-pandemic world? Register Now

Join us for our Fall Wellness Retreat Event:

Stop and smell the roses,” they say. As if you didn’t have eighty-eight thousand tasks, as if you didn’t have deadlines or drama. In our rapid-fire, tech-oriented society, who has the luxury of stopping to sit in nature like a bohemian free spirit? In the modern art world, flowers are considered frivolous subjects to paint – flowers make no social critique, flowers don’t say shocking things, so flowers are not “serious art.” Yet, Jesus invites us to consider wildflowers (Matt. 6:28). Have we dismissed flower-admiring as frivolous, unimportant to our “serious” lives? If we never stop to actually look at wildflowers, Jesus’ words will be a bit lost on us.
Slow Down, Look Up, Give Thanks.
Ladies, it’s time to reTREAT yourself!
Join us, and others from sister Mid-ABC churches, November 11th and 12th for a weekend in Cedar Rapids, IA for a time of bible study devotions, pampering, chair massages, activities, laughs, worship, and prayer. Use this time to focus on self care, rest, and thanksgiving before the busyness of the holidays. Our inaugural Women's Wellness Weekend was back in 2019 and it was a very well received good time. Please consider joining us this November! Talk to the ladies in your churches and invite a friend to come too.
