RESTORING BIODIVERSITY

faiths acting locally
November 10th, 5pm

FEN proudly invites you to our last online gathering for the year- another mix of presentations and breakout groups, this time with a very practical focus: how we can encourage our faith communities to protect or further enhance the biodiversity in our area.
First up we will hear from two practitioners: Marita and Jayden:

Marita Macrae has been active in professional and volunteer bush regeneration mostly in the Pittwater area. She was a co-founder of Pittwater Natural Heritage Association in 1994 and is currently vice-president of the Avalon Preservation Trust. Other environmental memberships include the Australian Conservation Foundation, National Parks Association, Birds Australia and Australian Bush Heritage Fund. Her many Awards for bush regeneration include an OAM in 2004. Marita has been a Pitwater Environmental Foundation director since inception and is the current Chair.
Jayden Walsh is a self-taught naturalist who developed a passion for wildlife watching in 2013. His knowledge about birds in the Sydney basin is particularly strong and he has run wildlife tours and lectures for around 4 years. His days are spent studying a Bachelor of Biodiversity and Conservation and he spends his nights looking for rare and threatened species in his local area. Recently during his gap year Jayden ran as a candidate for the Northern Beaches Council election and traveled to Cape York with a group of birdwatchers.
After hearing from Marita and Jayden, we will be inspired by the work occurring at Brahma Kumaris Landcare, Blue Mts, include meditative gardening; Bahai’i Temple Bushcare, Ingleside; St Anthonys Terrey Hills Landcare/Sacred Forest Project...
Finally we will divide into workshop groups to hear about specific projects, and how we might do something similar with our own faith communities.  More info will be sent ahead of the event, and you will be able to choose your preference during the zoom gathering.

Strengthening an interfaith dialogue between science and religion in the interests of advancing ecological consciousness and care for the Earth

The Faith Ecology network aims:

  • To share mutual appreciation of religious traditions regarding ecological insights
  • To discern and foster religious reasons for advocacy

Through the network we share the experience of religious and cultural diversity which enhances the depths of one’s own religious tradition. We grow in understanding of the connections between faith and ecology. We build up networks within and between faith traditions and environmentalists.

We would love your support to employ a P/T facilitator to help grow FEN.
