José Manuel Barroso and Neelie Kroes @ Brussels Launch of European Digital Forum 

José Manuel Barroso, president of the European Commission, and Neelie Kroes, vice-president of the European Commission and commissioner in charge of the digital agenda, joined a star-studded group of digital entrepreneurs and thought leaders for a high-level summit in Brussels to formally launch the European Digital Forum.

European Digital Forum and World Economic Forum Team Up on Innovation-Driven Entrepreneurship

The European Digital Forum teamed up with the World Economic Forum to host a High-Level Working Session on Innovation-Driven Entrepreneurship. Mário Campolargo, director for net futures at the European Commission's directorate-general for communications networks, content and technology, kicked-off the discussion with a reflection on how to improve the collaboration between digital entrepreneurs and established corporations.

Jean-Claude Juncker Responds to Open Letter from Digital Champions 

The European Union digital champions signed an Open Letter to the Lead Contenders for European Commission President, facilitated by the European Digital Forum. These ambassadors for the digital agenda of Europe encouraged the lead European Commission presidency candidates to include a bold and ambitious digital strategy in their electoral platforms and unite behind a four-point agenda. Jean-Claude Juncker, president-designate of the European Commission, was the first to respond and endorse the letter.

Ann Mettler Joins Strategic Policy Forum on Digital Entrepreneurship

Ann Mettler, executive director of the European Digital Forum, was asked to serve on the newly established Strategic Policy Forum on Digital Entrepreneurship. The forum will advise the European Commission on policy issues and actions to foster digital entrepreneurship and will promote the development of the digital entrepreneurship policies by member states at national and regional level.

Launch of the Greek Startup Manifesto 

The European Digital Forum supported and facilitated the official launch of the Greek Startup Manifesto in Athens. The manifesto was officially presented to Kyriakos Mitsotakis, Greek minister of administrative reform and e-governance.

Taxation of the Digital Economy

In March 2014, Ann Mettler was invited to deliver a presentation to the Expert Group on Taxation of the Digital Economy, chaired by Vitor Gaspar, former finance minister of Portugal. The group used the occasion to understand the policy implications of the rise of micro-multinationals, small companies that have global reach thanks to digital technologies and the Internet.

Mobile World Congress 

In February 2014, Ann Mettler presented the European Digital Forum in a session dedicated to the Startup Europe Manifesto: Making It Happen at the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona. Executive Director Mettler also joined an invitation-only brainstorming session on advancing digital entrepreneurship. 


Data-Driven Business Models 

The European Digital Forum will launch an ambitious research project on data-driven business models in the startup world. The study will develop an inventory of data-driven business models and analyse challenges faced by European startups in their adoption. The research project will include a series of interviews with data analytics experts, web entrepreneurs and policymakers.

Digital Insights 

The European Digital Forum will launch Digital Insights, a new policy brief series. Focused on concise best practices and case studies from across Europe and the world, these e-briefs will provide unique insights on how to foster web entrepreneurship and promote the use of digital technologies. Digital Insights will kick-off with a case study of Future Fifty, a one-of-its kind programme to identify and scale up United Kingdom-based high-growth companies.
