Call for Art


Divergent Offerings

 
        Divergent: Tending to be different or develop in different directions; relating to or
being an infinite sequence that does not have a limit
 
        Offerings: A thing offered, a gift or contribution

We are now accepting submissions for our second curated fall show, Divergent Offerings, running November 2-18 at The Show Gallery Lowertown, in St. Paul, MN. Check out the full details for this call on the WARM website.

Divergent Offerings is a curated WARM pop-up Show and collaboration with The Show Gallery Lowertown and Avivo ArtWorks (formerly Spectrum ArtWorks) featuring work from WARM Members, Mentors and our partner curation team from Avivo Artworks.
 
Submissions welcomed in 2d (max size 6’ x 6’), sculpture, light, spoken word/writing, performance, small & lightweight suspended works, textiles, film, book arts and music!
 
Submission Deadline - ‪Monday October 23rd
Artists Notification - ‪Sunday, October 29
Awards - People’s Choice Award $100 - Thanks to Clay Squared to Infinity!
Entry fee - $35 (You may submit up to 4 pieces; 1 is guaranteed to be accepted in to the show)

Presented by OX-OP ARTS, this one-night-only Solo Art Exhibit and Artist Reception represents a glimpse into Lisa Pemrick’s pop-surrealist visual vocabulary with over 40 pieces painted in oil. The event is open to the public on FRIDAY, OCTOBER 20 from 7PM
to 10PM, with musical performance by Paris1919. Hors d'oeuvres will be served, cash bar available.

Bkindart Kindness Event at Amalgamated Art Studio

Bkindart event! I was offered the chance to collaborate with one of the partners, Mark Hayden, of Amalgamated Art Studio to create some original work on the giant studio windows facing their street!!

I am very excited to share my next artistic leap with you all but if you know me you know that I will use this blessing as an opportunity for kindness. Sooo, this exhibition will include an art auction as an opportunity for all my friends and family to help us raise money for Autism Speaks. I will be auctioning 3 pieces of art for this event and a portion of the money raised will be donated to this amazing organization.

A Critical Response to Falling Water (Traces of Minnehaha Falls)

Please join us for a Critical Response (CR) session of Marcia's Falling Water series. Our CR Facilitator will be Jill Waterhouse, a longtime WARM Mentor and Certified Life Coach. You can learn more about the CR process here.

Social Hour will be from 5-5:30 PM when refreshments will be served. Potential protégées and guests can socialize with artists and WARM members, view Marcia's work, and see an exhibition of WARM's Mentor / Protegee pairs from previous cohorts.

Please Note: The CR begins PROMPTLY at 5:30 PM.  We respectfully request you arrive prior to 5:30 so as not to interrupt the CR Process once it begins.

Are you looking for a jump start to your art career?
 
Attend the WARM Mentor Program Information Session on Saturday, October 14 ,1-3 pm at:

Coordinators Tina and Karen will discuss this two-year program and its visible signs of success.

A Mentor/Protégée Showcase Exhibition is featured at the Dow Art Gallery during October. Five Mentor/Protégée pairs show their work and describe their experiences in the program. Reception October. 13, 6-8 pm. Artist Talks, October 21, 1-3 pm. Visit this show to learn more about how the Mentor Program works.

On Location Drawing Group

On Location Drawing Co-op will be exploring the Solar Arts Building and surrounding area. We will explore the AutumNE event hosted by NEMAA, possibly get a beer from Indeed Brewery and hit the food trucks. Hopefully we will get a glimpse of the North Star zipping by on the tracks. We will meet up at the Steadfast Studio and Gallery (Studio # 214) at 12:00pm.

On Location Drawing Co-op is an informal Drawing Group that explores different park and community garden / spaces for fun and fellowship. Come join us for fun and fellowship!

    • AutumnNE: NEMAA is excited to present AutumNE (formerly Fall Fine Arts), an annual exhibition of more than 150 of our members’ artwork. October 27 – November 5, 2017. Join us!

  • Friends of the Arts (St. Louis Park) is seeking 8 artists to participate in its new City Art Lab program. Each artist will lead a 2-4 hr workshop and collaborate with the other artists and workshop participants in a public art installation. See the full call here.
  • Rimon: The Minnesota Jewish Arts Council's Monthly e-Guide: The October 2017 Edition, including a slew of events too long to pick just one, ranging from book and exhibition debuts to a series on the "world of Torah through the artist's lens" and artist residency openings.
  • VSA Minnesota Artists' Pipeline news for artists with disabilities and arts organizations; also includes links to open calls and multiple grant opportunities, such as the emerging artists grant for artists with disabilities, due Dec. 1 .

  • Crossings at Carnegie has two new calls for art on their website: Art Under 100 Under 100, deadline Dec. 4, and Poet/Artist Collaboration XVII, deadline Jan. 10.
  • The Textile Center's  A Common Thread 2018 call for entry is open. New this year is a $25 fee; however, you may contact them if this presents an obstacle to participation for you as a Textile Center member. Deadline Nov. 17.
  • Ox-Bow Fall Residency program, Summer MFA and Arts Faculty residency program details are up.

  • CERF+ responds to the hurricanes plus their next round of "get ready grants", due Nov 30th.
Art Events, Classes, & Other News
  • Next week's recommendation in Minneapolis: The Northeast Minneapolis Arts District (NEMAD) Board of Directors is hosting two public forums to address how local government supports artists, and helps to develop, the arts and arts related businesses in Wards 1 and 3, particularly those in the Northeast Minneapolis Arts District
    which straddles both Wards. Northeast is changing - don't you want to be part of the discussion? The council forum event details are here and the mayoral event is here. The format includes a guided discussion and audience Q & A.
  • Next week's recommendation in St. Paul: St. Paul Art Crawl! Oct. 13 - 15th. See the online version of the catalog here! MN State Arts Board will have a special showcase "AS WE ARE", featuring artists with disabilities who have benefited from their grants, at the Park Square Court, 400 Sibley St., St. Paul.
  • Recommended: Tweed Museum of Art exhibition by Kathy McTavish is an Immersive soundscape and digital art experience. "Chance", designed specifically for its gallery at UMD, has its opening reception Oct. 19, 6 - 8pm, and runs Oct. 17, 2017 - Oct. 28, 2018. You can see a video talking about this innovative evolving, experimental exhibit and installation here.
  • Sad news: Intermedia Arts is in financial trouble, resulting in the layoff of all staff. They will be evaluating their mission and options in the next month, but currently does expect to honor existing commitments for events and activities.
  • Teatro del Pueblo, Voice to Vision and The Iberoamerian Studies Series are presenting Teatro La Candelaria's  production of "Soma Mnemosine.", a performance art piece about the violence in Colombia today on Oct. 12 and 13th at 7:30 pm at Intermedia Arts.
  • Artistry presents the Annual Instructor-Student Art Exhibition, Nov. 16 - Dec. 29 in the Atrium Gallery, Bloomington Center for the Arts.
  • Minnesota Council of Nonprofits news and event listings, including Grant writing and networking opportunities
  • Soap Factory : Exhibitions & Events including Pete Driessen: Trestle Support Systems, Oct. 25 - Nov. 8,, and  Monica Sheets: Collectively We Support Your Autonomy, Oct. 14, 2017 - Oct. 14th-2018
  • Art Works Eagan is having an inaugural open house and exhibition opening on Sunday, Oct. 15, 6 - 9 pm. You can tour their gallery and studio spaces, and view work from Becka Rahn, Brenda Lyseng, Thomas Schrunk, Kristin Hoelscher-Schacker,  and Felix Guadalajara.  Food provided by the Lone Oak Grill. See the Facebook event on their page here. Art Works Eagan is offering studio memberships for private studio and occasional use common studio space. See their website for more details.
  • Walker Art Center Evening for Educators: Nov. 14, 5 - 7 pm, free! K-12 Teachers are invited to the Walker for an entertaining educational evening highlighting the exhibition Adios Utopia: Dreams and Deceptions in Cuban Art Since 1950.
  • The Minneapolis Art Lending Library (MALL) will host its next lending hours at the Bryant Square Recreation Center on Friday, October 27th, 2017 from 5:00-8:00pm. Borrowers are invited to browse our collection of over 110 original works of art, then choose one to take home for a period of three months. Lending hours are free and open to all. First time borrowers must bring proof of their current address and sign a borrower agreement form.
  • "Culture as Weapon" at Space 369 in the Dow Building opens Oct. 20, 7 - 9pm, and runs through Oct. 28. This exhibit of several artists includes art that personalizes the "very abstract '30,000' killed annually" by gun violence. Space 369 is open by appointment and is located in the Dow Building at 2242 University Ave W, St Paul, MN 55114.  Contact John Schuerman at 612-240-2317 for more information.

Please submit your content for the WARM Wednesday newsletter by using the submission form on the WARM website. The next deadline for submission is Sunday, November 12th for items to be published in the November 15th Newsletter. There is only ONE newsletter published per month, so please plan accordingly. Thanks!

Members may submit one item per newsletter. If you have multiple items or a lengthy description, you may submit a single item with summaries and links to postings elsewhere. Non-members may send items to news@thewarm.org for consideration as a blog post on the WARM blog.
