Hello from (remote) Nick Hern Books HQ! We're very excited to share with you some of the things we've been working on over the past few weeks – starting with the announcement that, from today, we're inviting applications to license NHB plays for amateur online performance. This fantastic opportunity will allow amateur theatre companies, youth theatres, student groups and others to continue to connect, create and have fun – see more info below.

We've also announced five further fantastic NHB writers whose work we'll be sharing with The NHB Playgroup, our free online playreading and discussion community. And we're proud to be supporting ImagiNation, a new creative project from Theatre Centre and Theatre503 offering you the chance to appear in a compilation film.

Finally, we're extending our numerous ongoing promotions, helping you catch up on cancelled productions and support their writers, flex your creative muscles, support homeschooling and inspire fun activities, and more. We're working hard to keep you feeling connected to theatre during this difficult time – so, just as we sign off each episode of our NHB Playgroup Q&A Podcast: 'take care, and see you next time!'

We're delighted to announce that we're now inviting applications to license Nick Hern Books plays for amateur online performance.

With theatres currently closed, this is the perfect way to bring your members or students together to keep sharing your passion, experience great new plays by today's most exciting writers, and stay active and connected. Whether you're looking to share a play you've always been passionate about (maybe even getting a former cast together for a revival!), test out a show you've had your eye on for a future, fully staged production, or try something completely different, we're here to support you in making that happen.

Online performance licences are available for both live-streamed performances and broadcasts of recorded productions, at a discounted rate of £60 plus VAT (or less for shorter plays) for each live performance or day that the production remains online. As usual, you'll need to secure approval and a licence for your production, and all applications must be approved on a case-by-case basis.

We want to express huge thanks to all of the brilliant authors and agents who've worked hard with us to make these online performances possible, and for their openness and understanding in these unprecedented times. Find out how the process works – and start searching for your perfect online production – here.

Each Wednesday during the coronavirus shutdown, we're making one play available for free

Over the next few weeks, we'll be sharing plays by fantastic writers Chris Bush, Jez Butterworth, Jessie Cave and Nadia Fall. This week's free play, acclaimed Almeida Theatre drama Albion by Mike Bartlett, is currently available to read for free until Wednesday 27 May – see how to access it, plus full information on The NHB Playgroup, here. We're very grateful to all of the writers for agreeing to take part.
