This special heart symposium features:
  • Motivating and enlightening presentations by Scripps medical experts
  • Inspiring patient stories about their healing journeys
  • Exhibit booths with women's health and wellness information
One of the speakers is Jim Cahill, the developer of Mindfulness-Based Biofeedback Therapy™, will describe exciting new discoveries in the hybrid field of contemplative neuroscience, and how modern mind-body medicine is applying these discoveries to achieve optimum health and happiness. Attracted by ancient wisdom from the East, a group of elite Western researchers has been meeting regularly with the Dalai Lama and his colleagues to explore together the best approaches of the East and West for achieving unprecedented levels of voluntary control of both the mind and body. Simple daily practices will be described that harness the power of the mind to help us control our heart rate and rhythm, blood pressure, muscle tension, breathing rate, and other bodily systems that maintain our most basic levels of health and wellbeing. These techniques are now taught daily at Scripps Center for Integrative Medicine, and at XiMED Medical Center on the Scripps Memorial campus, in La Jolla.
