Get Ready for Winter Bike & Walk Week and Winter Bike to Work Day!

This year, Winter Bike to Work Day is Feb. 14, Valentine’s Day! Community Cycles, the City of Boulder and Boulder County have plenty of fun events planned.

More classes at our shop will be added (check our website). On tap now are two Winter Bike Commuting classes: Feb. 8 at 9 a.m. and Feb. 13 at 6:30 p.m.

And speaking of on tap, be sure to attend the Winter Walk & Bike Week Happy Hour Kick-off, Feb. 6 from 4 -7 p.m. at Twisted Pine. Light snacks provided, and the first 25 people who show a bike helmet get their first beer free!

Other events planned include:
An Accessibility event on Feb. 11, a Meditative Stroll on Feb. 12, A Mural Sip (coffee) and Stroll on Feb. 13 and a Winter Walk Mini-Marathon on Feb. 15. All of these events are still in the planning stages, but final info will be posted soon at the Boulder Winter Walk & Bike Week website.  Also, see Boulder County’s Winter Walk Bike Week Celebration page.

Remember to register for Winter Bike to Work Day on Feb. 14. Last year, Boulder came in second in the entire world!

Community Cycles Recommendations in Advance of Boulder City Council Retreat

Community Cycles recommendations include city-wide 20 mph speed limits on residential streets, increased funding for transportation, and work on the Access Management and Parking Strategy (AMPS). Read more.

20 is Plenty

As part of the 13th Street Neighborhood GreenStreet project, City of Boulder Transportation staff is planning to lower the speed limit on 13th Street between Canyon Boulevard and Elder Avenue to 20 mph. Staff will be piloting the design of a new Vision Zero 20 mph speed limit sign with the intent to study its effectiveness at lowering vehicle speeds.

Volunteer Story: Meet Jennifer Cornell

“I first discovered Community Cycles when I was in need of a bike. I built a beautiful small bicycle a few years ago. I loved my bike, but because I have residuals from several previous injuries, I could not maintain my balance on two wheels. I gave up my bike after falling over in traffic and fearing for my life. The flood of 2012 caused much trouble, but I found myself inheriting a tricycle, which saved my life!  Community Cycles has enabled me to maintain, repair, even replace my original tricycle. Community Cycles has given me the know-how, confidence and comfort to make my tricycle my first mode of transit!”
