Workshops Return

They won’t be quite the same, but workshops are coming back! Our plan is for all to be held in our parking lot, where there is plenty of room to socially distance. Classes will be smaller and in the mornings to take advantage of a large shady area. Instructors and students will be required to wear masks, and all instruction will be socially distanced.

Volunteers are needed to help teach.
We will be reaching out to our regular teachers, but with smaller classes, we’ll need more instructors. Interested? Contact

If you signed up for the Complete Mechanic Series waiting list, you will be contacted about times and dates in the next few weeks. Please don’t contact us just yet, give us time to work through the list.

We hope to also offer free Fix a Flat and Mechanics 101 soon, also in the parking lot. Please check our
website and social media pages where we will announce classes as we can schedule them.

We look forward to seeing you soon, either on the bike path or at the shop: socially distanced and wearing a face covering. Stay safe!

Keep riding!

New 20mph Sign

The new 20 mph Vision Zero speed limit signs are installed! We’ve still got a ways to go to make our streets safe and comfortable for all, and will keep working towards that goal.

P.S. Community Cycles 20 is Plenty Signs are still available at the shop for FREE. Help build support and momentum in your neighborhood as we make our streets safer for everyone.

Changes in Allocations of Transportation Funding

Community Cycles, along with the Transportation Advisory Board (TAB), has been advocating for a fresh look at how transportation funding is allocated with an eye towards making more money available for smaller, impactful projects with less funding spent on large projects that may take years to materialize. This is especially important given the recent funding cuts.

Issues like this are an example of the day-to-day policy Community Cycles works on with TAB and Transportation Division staff. Similar detailed projects include updates to the city’s Design Construction Standards, creation of the Traffic Signal Policy document, continued work on the Access Management Plan, along with larger projects like Vision Zero and Neighborhood Green Streets. By signing up for our Advocacy Alerts, you can find out when we need your help to write an email or sign a petition to advocate for policy changes.

Leave a Legacy for Good

You’re probably like me: Someone who wants Community Cycles to be here, serving our community into the future, building a culture of cycling forever.

Lately, I’ve been thinking a lot about leaving my legacy. I definitely want Community Cycles to be part of that.  I’d heard that a Beneficiary Designation is a simple way to leave money to Community Cycles from my estate.

While I want to take care of my children and spouse, I also want to support Community Cycles into the future. I was able to designate a $5,000 legacy gift to Community Cycles by changing the beneficiary designation on my retirement account, and best of all it took 15 minutes!!  I think it’s by far the easiest way to make a legacy gift.

Save the Date:
Community Cycles' Online Silent Auction

Every June,  Community Cycles has held our annual Member Appreciation Party during Walk and Bike Month to thank our members for your support, and to celebrate our work. One of the highlights is always the silent auction! This auction helps fund our events, like giving bicycles to kids at the annual Kids’ Holiday Bike Giveaway, and also our work advocating for safer streets in Boulder.

This year, due to COVID, our annual party is postponed. But we still want to hold our silent auction so you can have the opportunity to buy something special for yourself or as a gift for someone who has made a difference in your life.

Our Online Silent Auction will take place the week of Bike to Work Day, September 22.  The auction will be live online Monday September 21 - Sunday September 27.  Save the date and watch for more details!

Contact Jennifer if you have an item you would like to donate to our silent auction.

Also, reach out to Jennifer if you’d like to volunteer to help us with our first ever online auction!  We would love to have your help.

Thank You Busey Brews

Busey Brews Smokehouse and Brewery in Nederland has selected Community Cycles as their July "Charity of the Month". $1 per "charity beer" sold will be donated to Community Cycles. If you’re riding up to Ned for some cool mountain air, stop by and visit our friends at Busey Brews.

Wearing Masks & Keeping Busy

DIY remains closed for the foreseeable future as it’s not possible to open our indoor work area to the public and remain in compliance with the County’s formula for person density, while still allowing our Production Team socially distanced space to work. Awesome new bikes continue to be pushed out by the Production Team, and we are working to better serve customers in our parking lot.

The state rule issued on July 16 makes it pretty clear: “no mask, no service.” Businesses who serve people without masks can be subject to losing their state business license.

All volunteers also must wear a mask. If you do not wear a mask during your volunteer shift, you will not be permitted to volunteer.

Thank you for following the rules that will allow us all to stay safe and keep Community Cycles open!

New Rules on Cash Donations

Under the CARES Act, we can all deduct cash donations up to $300. For everyone who takes the standard deduction on your 2020 tax return (the one you'll file in 2021), there’s a new "above-the-line" deduction of up to $300 for cash donations made in 2020. We hope that makes it a little easier to give...and we’re glad that all of our generous donors can take that deduction!
