November is Busy at Community Cycles

Kids’ Holiday Bike Giveaway - It’s that time again! Entering its 12th year, the Kids’ Holiday Bike Giveaway is set for Sunday, December 15, from 10 a.m. - 2 p.m.. We need mechanics to help us fix and clean more than 500 bikes and get them reading for local kids. Sign up for a shift! You can also sign up to help out at the event.
You can also make a donation today to gift bikes to low-income kids in Boulder this holiday season through Kids’ Holiday Bike Giveaway.
Bike Light Giveaway - The days are getting shorter, so be safe and ride with a light! Community Cycles has partnered with the City of Boulder on the Lighten Up Boulder Campaign to give away free bike lights. The lights are more to be seen than to see well, so if you regularly ride at night, stop by our shop and we’ll set you up with a bright light at a good price. And membership will get you a discount!
Colorado Gives Day is Tuesday, December 10, but you can schedule your donation today. Thanks for the bike love! Please help support our programs that keep bikes out of the landfill; provide thousands of free and low-cost bikes in our community; teach bike safety and repair; and advocate for safe places to walk and ride.

Keep riding!

New City of Boulder Council Members on Bicycling

Congratulations Rachel Friend, Junie Joseph, Adam Swetlik and Mark Wallach on your election to City Council.  Aaron Brockett and Bob Yates, congratulations on your re-election!
In September, Community Cycles sent a survey to all candidates and published their responses in our October e-news. Now it’s time to revisit responses from those who were elected. In our survey, all candidates supported a 20 mph speed limit on residential streets. They also all supported new funding for transportation, with different ideas on priorities for spending that funding, and “Vision Zero,” with various ideas of what the city would need to do to realize that goal. Read the complete questions and responses here. Community Cycles looks forward to working with this new council to make our streets safer for walking and biking.

Carlos Hernandez named Mobility Director

After a long search, the city has named Carlos Henandez as the new Transportation & Mobility Director. Community Cycles has worked with Carlos on a number of projects, including the 30th and Colorado Corridor study, in his role as a partner at the transportation consulting firm Fox, Tuttle, Hernandez. Carlos will start with the city on Jan. 13, 2020. We look forward to working with him, and look forward to his bringing new ideas and energy to Boulder.

Open House: 19th Street Project and Sumac Avenue Study

There will be a joint Open House on Nov 21 from 6:30 - 8 p.m. at Crestview School for both the 19th Street Multi-modal Improvement project and the Sumac Avenue Study.  Please see the project websites for more information.

Meet Pete

Pete Weatherby, a new volunteer, loves people and biking. After finishing his 4th volunteer shift, he wanted to let us know what an awesome experience it has been.
Pete says, “Your staff and volunteers have been SO friendly, helpful and grateful at every turn, and have made me feel welcome, comfortable and valued from my first day. I came to give something, and it turns out I'm receiving so much more!

I love the culture, environment, and well, the community at Community Cycles. The diversity and emphasis on inclusivity is beautiful and refreshing. Coming to Community Cycles makes me feel part of a bigger ‘village’ than my little active-adult enclave. So thank you for fostering such an awesome environment and place.

I've also enjoyed a number of workshops so far, and am looking forward to being in CMS. This is how your team and shop has made me feel. I applaud, congratulate and thank you!”
