New Faces Around the Shop!

I’m excited to share a few changes around Community Cycles this month.

Sales associate Joey Gault has been promoted to Shop Sales Coordinator. In just a few weeks, Joey has already been on top of keeping the shop neat and orderly and the shelves stocked!

Bruce Piggot, our Earn-a-Bike and Workshop Programs Coordinator, is finally retiring. He “retired” once before, but came back to us a month later! Bruce will still be around as a volunteer, but former Board President Ray Keener will be taking over Bruce’s role coordinating our workshops, the Complete Mechanics Series and our Earn-a-Bike Programs. Ray is a legend in the bike industry. and we are lucky to have him and his extensive network of bike knowledge serving our community. He has set his sights on expanding Community Cycles’ workshop offerings, adding more classes, new teachers and community forums.

Finally, longtime board member Dean Fogerty is retiring from the Community Cycles Board of Directors. Dean joined our board in 2010 and has given hundreds of hours of time to advance our work, especially tabling and helping out at events. Dean was the board member I could ask to do any task and he would happily take it on, no matter how big or small. I will really miss his unwavering support and positive, no-nonsense attitude at board meetings, along with his energetic help at every event. Dean has been a part of what has made Community Cycles a wonderful place and a great Boulder institution. Thank you Dean!

Keep riding!

Executive Director

Broadway & Rayleigh

After input from Community Cycles and TAB, the intersection improvement project at Broadway & Rayleigh will not use Vision Zero dollars as had been proposed originally. A new right turn slip lane and pedestal signals will be installed, with a new protected signal phase for bicyclists.  Thank you city staff and TAB for working through this process, all while bringing in innovation and saving money!

Bike Workshops in Spanish. Community Cycles has added new regular bike workshops in Spanish the fourth Thursday of the month from 6:30-8:30 p.m. Learn more about Taller de Bici.

Meet the New Shop Sales Coordinator:
Joey Gault

Joey worked in various capacities in the corporate world in LA and NYC before moving to Boulder. He grew up riding bikes and still feels like a kid whenever he gets pedaling. When not out on two wheels, Joey enjoys skiing and camping.

Cycling Tip

Even though the days are getting longer, you may still be caught in the dark when out on your bike. The law in Boulder states that you must have both a mounted white light in front and a red reflector on the back of your bike, from sunset to sunrise.

Here are just a few of our picks to keep you safe. There’s a wide range of prices, from $12 to $60+. Many of them are USB rechargeable with an indicator so you know when it’s time to charge.

Stop in and pick up a light (or two). Our staff can help you choose one to fit your bike and budget.

Bonus tip if you’re taking the bus: Even if you’re going to take the bus without your bike, holding up a bike light so the bus driver can see you will help you make your connection.

A Legacy Gift in Five Minutes

We all want Community Cycles to be here, serving our community into perpetuity.

Lately, I’ve been thinking a lot about leaving my legacy, and I definitely want Community Cycles to be part of that.

I’d heard that a Beneficiary Designation is the easiest way to leave money to Community Cycles in my estate. I have an IRA savings account, and while I want to take care of my children and spouse, I also want to support Community Cycles into the future.

I was able to designate a $5,000 legacy gift to Community Cycles by changing the beneficiary designation on my IRA. It took 5 minutes!! I know that this is one of the simplest legal instruments for a legacy gift, and it leaves the rest of my estate to care for my family.
