Walk and Bike Month 2020: Covid Edition

Sadly, Bike to Work Day breakfast stations will not happen this year. But we can still celebrate walking and biking in Boulder as we have re-envisioned what Walk & Bike Month can be in the time of COVID. Community Cycles, working with our partners at Boulder Transportation Connections, has planned socially distanced safe events - not just online, but also walking, biking and lots of folks winning pretty cool prizes.

The Walk & Bike Month website lists a number of self-guided bike rides and walks, including mountain bike rides, the B360 route and the Streetwise Mural Self-Guided Walk & Ride.

Our Featured Events include:

The Boulder Bike, History and Architecture Scavenger Hunt: Sept 20-30; 70 people will win a Park Tool Multi Tool (see photo below).

Boulder Bike to Wherever: Cycling Safety Seminar: Sept 22 @ 12:30 p.m.

What to Expect in Bicycle Infrastructure: Forum with City & County Planners: Sept 22 @ 5 p.m.

We can’t host our famous member party and silent auction this year, so we’ve moved the auction online. We have the same great deals on cool bikes, bike stuff, local gift cards and fun, safe getaways. Check it out!

Keep riding!

Boulder County Projects

Community Cycles Advocacy has been busy providing input on two Boulder County projects: the Boulder-Erie Region trail and the Jay Road improvements, which include repaving/striping pedestrian crossings and transit. Read more here.

Budget Concerns

Our biggest transportation concern is the ongoing drop in Boulder’s sales tax, which is reducing the 2021 city transportation budget. More on that to come.

In some good news, the City of Boulder received a “Revitalizing Mainstreet” grant to fund projects for Boulder Meadows, Shared Streets (Greenstreets) and the West Pearl seasonal repurposing.

Report a Close Call or Unsafe Conditions to the City of Boulder using the Inquire Boulder App. Great to use on your phone -- you can easily add a photo and identify the location of the issue. Select the Topic Area and Report a New Issue.

Classes & Workshop

All classes are held outside, socially distanced and masked. Class size is limited and will fill up quickly. See current offerings here  (we’ll add new classes as we get instructors).

Complete Mechanics Series is in full swing. New sessions start each month (weather dependent). There is a long waiting list, so if you are on that list, you will be contacted when registration opens. You can add your name to the list here.

The DIY shop is back, with limited hours, limited capabilities and set up outside.

Two sets of tools and two stands are available for members to work on their bikes with volunteer assistance on Saturdays and Sundays. Each stand will have a 2-hour shift at noon, and 1-hour shifts at 2 & 3 p.m.  You must be a member and reserve your spot on a stand online HERE. Sorry, we will not be able to accept any walk-ups.

We are looking for volunteers to help assist members as they learn and fix their bikes. If you are interested in volunteering, please contact

It’s time to start thinking about bike lights. Swing by the shop to check out the latest USB and battery lights, starting at $30 for a set.

Did you know Community Cycles has gift cards for sale? They are perfect for any occasion! Gift cards can be purchased in any amount from $25-$1,000. Order yours on-line and we’ll mail it out.

Bikes for Sale

We have a variety of flat-bar road bikes, ATB/mountain bikes and even a few cargo bikes for sale at our shop. Come check out bikes in person during open hours to view a full inventory. We’ve devoted a section of our website for unusual and specialty bicycles or follow us on instagram for fun photos of the latest.

Bicycle Donations

Donations are accepted Thursday-Sunday 11 a.m. - 4 p.m. Be mindful that Community Cycles is in a residential neighborhood and unattended donations attract crime. Please drop off bicycles for donation only when we are open. Thank you!

**Cycling Tips**
