Help Us Get Ready for the 13th Annual Kids’ Holiday Bike Giveaway

Please donate today to support the Kids’ Holiday Bike Giveaway! With the economic downturn, much of our funding for this program has been cut. Help us continue to support this important program.

Every year since 2008, Community Cycles has been gifting bicycles to low-income kids and families in our community.  This year due to COVID, we will be holding the event over three consecutive weekends to limit the number of attendees at any one time.

You can volunteer to help us fix the over 350 bikes we have been collecting all year, and planning to give away in December.

Sponsor a child, create a Happy Holiday for a family, or gift a bike and helmets for a whole neighborhood! Thank you for supporting this important work in a year when low-income families in Boulder are struggling even more.

Fall & Winter Hours

See the SHOP NEWS for details about changes in our open hours during the fall and winter, and please note that we will continue to be outside as long as possible. Due to weather and daylight, our hours may change suddenly. In winter we will move some things inside (see SHOP NEWS for the precautions we are taking), which may result in a change in hours.

A good rule of thumb:  Please check our website, Facebook page and Twitter for our latest hours before you head to the shop.

Thanks for an Excellent Silent Auction

Thanks to everyone who participated, and we appreciate all the bike love!

Keep riding!

We Need Bike Donations

Community Cycles is looking for your used bicycles. We take used bikes and parts and recycle/upcycle them to provide free and affordable transportation for our community. Some items are donated, and some items are sold at affordable prices. These sales support all of our programs: bike safety education; free bikes for kids and adults, and all of our advocacy work to make bicycling safer for everyone. Find out how you can help donate a bike. We'll even pick up your old bikes!

Here's a short video from Boulder's own Ryan Van Duzer about donating your bikes to Community Cycles!

YOUR CYCLING LEGACY

We want Community Cycles to always be here for people who love bicycles, as we work to get more people on bikes, and to make a better Boulder for bicyclists.

Easy Ways to Give.... You can list Community Cycles as a designated beneficiary on your 401K, IRA or other savings account. Please always check with your financial and tax advisors when you make an estate gift.

Sept. Walk and Bike Month ReCap

While not what we were envisioning at the beginning of 2020, Walk and Bike Month was a resounding success. We found new ways to explore Boulder with a Scavenger Hunt, retracing the B360 route and followed the StreetWise map to see lots of murals.

When you ride your bike, you improve your health and lower stress levels. And, you’ve improved the air quality in the Boulder area for everyone.

Want to keep it up? Visit walkandbikemonth.org any time and find ideas for getting outside for a bicycle ride.

As always, our sponsors are vital to our success. A big shoutout to all of our sponsors!  Thank you to the Daily Camera, Alpine Bank, Google, 1908 Brands, Xilinx, Twitter, Boulder County, KGNU, Terrapin Care, Milo Construction, W.W. Reynolds, Better Boulder, Conscience Bay, Environmental Center of the University of Colorado Boulder, Fox Tuttle and Independent Motors.

We appreciate your support. Together, we are making Boulder a better place for bicyclists.

Let your Voice be Heard on Shared Streets and Vision Zero Innovation Projects

Boulder is installing innovative quick-build improvements, including curb extensions, traffic calming and crossing treatments, to enhance pedestrian and bicyclist safety and comfort.  Read more and give your input on the Vision Zero Innovation Program.

The City of Boulder is also temporarily turning many streets into “Shared Streets” due to COVID and thanks to a grant. Traffic will be limited to local access only and the shared streets will create safer public spaces for recreation and social distancing. Read more and give your input on Neighborhood Shared Streets.

E-bikers - What’s the trail you most want to see opened for commuting?

Community Cycles supports the use of e-bikes on regional trails for commuting purposes.  Several regional trails are not open to e-bikes due to OSMP rules and private property easements (e.g., Canyon & Lobo trail).  Email Sue if you want to be part of the conversation.

Fall & Winter in the Shop - COVID Edition

We plan to continue outdoor retail, DIY and classes as long as the weather permits. We will start reducing hours as it gets dark earlier if we are staying outside. Since our hours need to be very flexible with the weather, please check our website, Facebook page and Twitter for our latest hours before you arrive.

Once we really get into winter, we will move some operations inside the shop. We have worked with our HVAC contractor and we have also purchased 3 large industrial HEPA-13 air purifiers. With our HVAC and air purifiers, the air inside the shop will be exchanged/cleaned over 5 times an hour (5 times is recommended). It will still be very important to limit the number of people in the building, maintain social distancing and wear masks. For these reasons, our building will look different in the winter when we are inside, so please check our website, Facebook page and Twitter for our latest hours before you head over.

DIY SHOP

The DIY shop is back, with limited hours, limited capabilities and set up outside for now.

Two sets of tools and two stands are available for members to work on their bikes with volunteer assistance on Saturdays and Sundays. Each stand will have a 2-hour shift at noon, and 1-hour shifts at 2 & 3 p.m.  You must be a member and reserve your spot on a stand online HERE. Sorry, we are not able to accept any walk-ups.

We are looking for volunteers to help assist members as they learn and fix their bikes. If you are interested in volunteering, please contact sue@communitycycles.org.

Gift Cards
