Welcome to our first newsletter of 2014.

After a challenging few years, with changing and volatile trading conditions, NZ economic indicators are on the up.   HSBC's  Chief Economist predicts that New Zealand will be the ‘rock star’ economy of 2014.    Business confidence is at it’s most confident in 20 years, with jobs and wages  predicted to rise.  The lowered unemployment rate is a key indicator of businesses reinvesting in their workforce. 

Taking your business to the next level  is about having the right people in the right seats.  This means taking a big picture approach to your workforce planning and talent management.  Recent research by Randstad highlights that 64% of companies expressed concern over gaps in their leadership pipeline.  For those businesses looking to grow or innovate in 2014 they need to address these concerns urgently.  Paul Robinson of Randstad suggests “organisations can’t effectively plan for the year ahead, let alone the next five years, if the right people aren’t in place. Identifying and attracting high performing employees and placing them in the right roles, especially in key leadership positions, will be critical in the early stages of 2014.”

Undertaking workforce planning will identify the future state people capability required to deliver on the business strategy,  along with the critical roles that need to be future proofed.  Ongoing talent mapping and  management will build the people pipeline to manage this risk.  A combination of buy (hiring) and build (internally developing) will ensure the mix of new blood and home grown expertise needed for growth and innovation.
