2014 has been an incredible year! As the year is quickly coming to a close, we would like to thank all of you: our friends and customers who keep us loving what we do. Reflecting on the past 12 months, I have so much else to be thankful for and proud of, both personally and professionally. I'm ecstatic to announce my first child, Nathan Jackson Markus, who was born just before Thanksgiving. Nathan, now 3 weeks old, and mom are doing great, though mom and I are exhausted. While these days are filled with diapers, milk, and sleep, I'm sure the days of soil, tractors, and conifers will be here before I know it!
From the beginning to shipping large plants:
Conifer Kingdom is the 2.5 year old mail order branch of the nursery I started in the fall of 2007. It's been a wild ride, and in just over 30 months we've expanded our offerings from less than 500 varieties to more than 1000. We are getting orders from throughout the United States and Canada, and we have shipped our first large plants on pallets to retail customers. I am happy to say that we've had no issues with large plant shipments thus far. These early adopting customers in CA, IL, MA, MD, NC, OH, TX, VA, TN, TX, and WA have received pallets loaded with the greatest plants in the world delivered to their driveway --no longer limited by a FedEx Box. In an effort to encourage more of you to try receiving our larger plants, we've got an incredible - strike that - the BEST - assortment of conifers any nursery could offer you, and to top it off, FREE truck shipping to your driveway. See below for more details.
Saying goodbye to conifer giants and growing:
This year the conifer community lost a tremendous asset in Dennis Dodge, of Connecticut's Bethlehem Nursery who passed away on January 6, 2014. Dennis was a friend who happened to be the best conifer collector I've ever known. He offered the rarest plant material out of his small home-based nursery in Bethlehem, Connecticut. Conifer Kingdom is privileged to have more than 250 varieties from Dennis Dodge's collection which we will be propagating and offering over the coming years. These varieties are not widely available anywhere else. In honor of his passing, we are including (for the first time) a variety which he named - the Japanese Umbrella Pine Tsai Cheng (Sciadopitys verticillata 'Tsai Cheng'). Tsai Cheng is a dwarf with oval-shaped form, incredibly tight-branching, and glossy green, flattened needles. Below is a photo of the Tsai Cheng in the Bethlehem Nursery landscape. This is the first of an ever-expanding selection of Japanese Umbrella Pines which we will be lucky to offer, thanks to Dennis.
