Colony members recently participated in Habitat for Humanity. The Pikes participated in the build on our lot from 12 to 4pm, and managed to shingle the majority of the roof. A handful of Pikes also joined in a charitable cookout at the Pancake Festival. These philanthropic events as well as others planned for the future will enable us to reach our goal of 3000 community service hours total for the Colony this semester.
First Edition April 4, 2011
This Newsletter marks the first monthly edition of updates from the Epsilon Gamma Colony at Texas Tech. A newsletter dedicated to keep Epsilon Gamma Alumni and parents informed of the growth and the latest events from the Texas Tech Colony.

Our Founder’s Weekend was a very successful weekend of events in which we managed to raise over $3,200 in funds at “Casino Night” and the Pike golf tournament combined.  The proceeds of weekend will contribute to both the Special Olympics of Texas and the Pike lodge.

Colony wide effort to elect the largest Greek wide block of students on Student Government Association, with colony member David Polcari and Jordan Ramirez gaining the position of Senator in the Colleges of Engineering and Arts and Sciences Department, respectively. We foresee steps such as helping Pike shuffle into a strategic position for establishing a solid political influence for the future.

Basketball had a successful season, but unfortunately lost in the second round of playoffs. Indoor soccer finished an outstanding season as runner- up last week with a loss in the championship game to Fiji. We also began softball this semester, recently finishing the regular season with one win and one loss with playoffs coming up this week.

Our first social event, the Catalina Wine Mixer, was a great success. One of our own, Haden Burchard, performed live along with the DJ for the nights musical entertainment.
We are also planning to throw our first day party for the end of April, themed “Ragin’ Cajun”.

We recently completed the by-laws required in phase two of our charter, which are available to every Texas Tech PIKE through orgsync. We will be submitting the second phase of our charter on the 15th of April and plan to begin phase three as soon as we gain confirmation.
