New Trails, New Gear, New Opportunities - and Firewood!

Hello Great Divide skiers & riders! We hope you are enjoying Montana’s rivers, lakes, hiking & biking trails, picnics, BBQ’s, rodeos and music concerts. We have been enjoying all of that, too, AND working hard to give you a WINTER FULL OF FUN right here at GREAT DIVIDE.
Before too long we’ll be opening our rental shop for new ski/snowboard leases and sales (September 7th), making snow (October 22nd) and getting you on the lifts (Nov 23rd)
Over the next few weeks we’ll be sending emails about what’s new for this season: improvements on the mountain, upcoming events, and specials you won’t want to miss!

This week’s focus:
All Things NEW

Montana’s Longest Ski Season: Again!
We always try to be the first to open, and the last to close.  We did it on both ends last season: November 23rd to May 3rd, totaling 104 days of fun skiing and riding. We’ll try to do it again this season.
A New Trail on The Upper Mountain
“Treasure” is a new, smooth groomed trail that gives you access to Surprise and Huckleberry Hill, for those of you who want to avoid the x-course rollercoaster of “The Drifts”. You can also use it to discover more lines in Sunshine Bowl, and from Dago Face into Waterfall and Miners Basin. Watch our emails for pictures of this project in the coming weeks!
Pavement to the Parking Lot?
Maybe! Lewis & Clark County has applied for federal funds to extend the Marysville Road paving that was completed in 2008.  We’ll keep you updated.
The Golden Boot is Back!
For many years, we hid a special “Golden Boot” on the mountain, and released hourly clues to its location.  Whoever found the boot brought it to the ticket office and received fun prizes. We’re bringing it back!  The boot will be hidden every Sunday, and clues will be released starting Saturday afternoons on our Facebook, Twitter and Instagram pages.

Be the first to locate the golden boot in this email by emailing us and you'll get a special prize, and mention in our next email!

Firewood FREE & EASY!
We are wrapping up a seven year, one million dollar clean-up of the pine beetle infestation.  The thousands of trees removed have created a healthy, green forest with amazing glade skiing opportunities on all areas of the mountain.
This summer, our trail crew has cut remaining standing dead and found recently fallen trees.  We have limbed and topped them, and sectioned the trunk wood into easy to carry pieces.  Each firewood pile that is available to be taken is identified with a pink ribbon.  Once you have loaded that section into your truck, please take the ribbon with you.

Even though a chain saw is not required, we ask that you bring a fire extinguisher, shovel and water.  It is dry here in August, and vehicle exhaust systems or brakes can ignite dry tall grasses, so please be careful.
Just pick up a federal firewood permit for $5/cord at any of the following locations:
  • Helena National Forest Supervisor's and Ranger District Offices
  • Broadwater Market
  • South's Country Store on York Road
  • Capital Sports and Western
  • Rock Hand Hardware
Note: most locations require that you purchase a minimum of 4 cords, so have $20 handy.

Then call Kevin 439-8742 & he’ll show you where to go.  After your 1st visit, come back and get some more!

Join the Great Divide Mountain Crew!
We’re always looking for friendly folks to help make Great Divide a great place to recreate. Earn a little extra money and spend some fun time here at the mountain.
Schedules are flexible, with weekends being the time we need the most staff to serve the big crowds.  We’ll take care of your breakfast and lunch during your shift, and your Season Pass lets you ski whenever you are off shift. AND, if you’re full time, you’ll get TWO FREE LIFT TICKETS to every other Montana Ski Area! (One ticket per area if you work part time.)
Here’s a look at how we staff each winter...
  • Lift Operators: Full & Part time, operating chairlifts safely and with a smile.
  • Ski Patrol: Volunteer and Pro Patrol, enhancing mountain safety and caring for injured guests.
  • Ticket Office Staff: Providing friendly customer service to our guests.
  • Rental Techs: Setting up daily rentals, as well as tuning and repairing equipment.
  • Lodge Staff: Some busy hours, then time on the snow.
  • Instructors, Ski and/or Snowboard: Work just a little, or a lot.  You don’t need to be an expert- our old pros will show you how. Instructors needed Wednesday through Sunday.
  • Mountain Crew” Make snow, plow snow, groom snow, and always carry a wrench.
