On Sunday, June 25th, we'll be watching "The Insanity of God", a moving documentary about persecution in the worldwide church. It'll stir you to rethink how you approach studying the Bible and sharing the Gospel. From the website:
"The Insanity of God is the true story of missionaries Nik and Ruth Ripken. After the death of their son, this ordinary couple journeys into the depths of the persecuted church, asking the question- IS JESUS WORTH IT?"
Is Jesus worth it? Is He worth my time and attention? Is He worth giving up my own life? Is He worth following? Is He worth sharing with others? These are questions every person has to consider. They’re also questions I’ve seen answered with a resounding "Yes!" by YOU. In the last couple of weeks, I’ve had the joy of experiencing the church in action. I’ve seen:
a husband and wife serving another couple in need
a cell group reaching out to serve and love one of their own in crisis
a group of men using their building skills to help another
a woman inviting others to learn the word of God
people tirelessly giving to our teenagers so that they can know Jesus
others selflessly giving up an evening, using their gifts to enhance our teaching
men and women meeting and working hard to make our place inviting to those who walk through the doors
several people choosing to give up part of their summer to serve God overseas
a group of men meeting early in the morning to help each other know Jesus
I could go on and on and on. And those are just some of the stories I’ve come in contact with. I know you have stories as well. Your lives are such an encouragement! And I thank God for the gifts He has given each one of you. We belong to Jesus. And together we say powerfully through our lives, “Jesus is worth it!”
As we enter the summer months, we’ve got some great opportunities around here to grow. Our next baptism is June 18. We’ll have a baptism info meeting this Sunday, June 4, after the service. If you know Jesus and have never been baptized, come find out more. Two summer classes start this Thursday, June 1. Financial Peace University, Thursday nights June 1 through July 27, will give you a biblical view on money and help you get a hold of your finances. Let’s Talk is a 3-week seminar designed to improve communication in marriage. Childcare is available (for a fee) for both of these classes. You can find out more on our website www.lifecommunity.com.
On June 25, our church will have the unique experience of viewing the documentary film, “The Insanity of God”together. In our travels through the book of Acts, we’ve seen many instances of persecution that the early followers of Christ faced. But what does that mean for us today? One of the takeaways from this documentary is the reality that persecution is happening today - in the lives of many of our brothers and sisters who know Jesus. Come on June 25 and witness the devoted lives of those who are saying, “Jesus is worth it!”
Looking forward to a great month together in groups and on Sunday as we worship and grow.
