Should I stay or should I go?

“When it stops being fun, find another sport.” That was the advice my wife and I gave our sons when they played hockey. I wonder if our words of advice could be applied to pastors, too.

I am not suggesting that pastoral ministry is all about fun. It involves hardships and sacrifices, and we all knew that going into the ministry. But it could be that our lack of enjoyment is an indicator that we have outgrown our current setting and need another challenge. Or, it could be that our congregation has outgrown us and they need another kind of pastor.

I encourage church leaders to ask themselves a few self-assessment questions that can help guide them in their calling.

TESTIMONY
“I had the privilege of reading Thriving Family and found it a wonderful source of information. I was delighted that it is supplied free to churches. Our church is small but growing, and it would be a wonderful magazine to place in the hands of parents in our church and community.”
