Healthy marriages - healthy church?
Do healthy marriages help in growing healthy churches? A good Canadian answer to that question is, “Maybe.”
As a pastor of 25 years, I know that you are concerned with discipleship, leadership development, worship, counselling and so much more. Ultimately, your role is to engage people in God’s mission. I like how Henry and Richard Blackaby define leadership in their book Spiritual Leadership: “Moving people on to God’s agenda.”
God is at work in this world and He invites us to join. However, some Christians do join while others don’t. Leaders need to know what motivates people to engage in God’s mission and what deters them from doing so. People can be motivated to engage in God’s mission by past experiences, an influential mentor or a challenging sermon. On the other hand, they can be deterred by spiritual immaturity, physical illness and feelings of incompetency.
