Get into the swing of spring and sample superb wines at this year’s Franschhoek Uncorked Festival, over the weekend of 27 and 28 September. Wineries in and around the Valley will be putting out the stops showcasing limited releases wines and possibly a new release (or two).

Don’t miss out on the wine specials either, valid for the weekend only. The perfect excuse to stock up on your wine collection as you travel from farm to farm. Choose to stop and sample wines or take in the entertainment and activities on offer at some of the farms. Look forward to cellar and vineyard tours, food and wine pairings, art exhibitions and live entertainment.

Get your Uncorked Weekend Pass, at a cost of R120 per person, and available directly from www.webtickets.co.za. Your pass includes a tasting glass and free wine tastings at the participating wineries for the duration of the weekend.

La Motte Food & Wine Tasting

Join us for the La Motte Food and Wine Tasting presented from a private room in our elegant Tasting Room for the pairing of five La Motte wines with five tastings of Pierneef à La Motte’s cuisine created by Chef Chris Erasmus. And, although the little tasters in the Food and Wine Tastings are beautifully presented as examples of haute cuisine, they represent flavours and tastes we experience every day and will guide guests towards more reliable future food and wine selections, with reference to weight and intensity, as well as the influence of the primary taste sensations.

La Motte Sustainable Walk

Joining La Motte’s other Green Initiatives, the Organic Walk will offer visitor’s the opportunity for a guided walk through the sustainably farmed organically grown vineyards where various cultivars are planted, a stroll through La Motte’s indigenous landscaped gardens and past the Protea gardens where various “fynbos” species are cultivated, ending with a special visit to the organic vegetable and herb garden that supplies the restaurant and farm shop with farm fresh produce.

La Motte Historic Walk

Join us on Wednesday mornings at the La Motte Museum for a brief résumé of the history and heritage of the estate, after which the tour proceeds through La Motte’s rose garden and dwells at four national monuments gracing the Franschhoek Valley landscape. A highlight of the Historic Walk is the milling of stone-ground flour, by the oldest operating mill in the Franschhoek Valley, for the bread baked in the Pierneef à La Motte kitchen.

Leopard’s Leap Family Vineyard,
together with Opulent Living Experiences, is set to present a special fundraising lunch in aid of the Cape Leopard Trust’s 10th anniversary. Launched in 2004, The Cape Leopard Trust is a conservation group with research projects which concentrate on Cape leopards as well as on other predators, including caracal and black eagle.

The culinary event features celebrity chefs as well as MCs. ‘Three chefs that will each prepare one dish on the day – Neil Jewell (Bread and Wine, Môreson), Vanessa Marx (Dear Me) andPieter de Jager who will be right at home in his own kitchen – will prepare a relaxed family-style lunch together with three celebrities (to be announced) joining them in the kitchen. Elana Afrika-Bredenkamp and Ian Bredenkamp will lead guests through the afternoon’s proceedings’.

A donation of R1 500 per person guarantees entry to the event. The Cape Leopard Trust will receive 100% of the proceeds as well as the money raised via an auction on the day.

CORPORATE SOCIAL RESPONSIBILITY
FWV attends First-aid training
FWV staff attended a Basic First Aid and Life Support Training held in the Dwarsrivier Valley on 21st-23rd July 2014. The purpose of this learning programme was to equip learners with the necessary skills to assess an emergency situation and provide basic Life Support and Basic First Aid in order to stabilize casualties before the transfer to emergency services. The course was made up on time spent in formal facilitation, practicals, self-study, as well as formative and summative assessments.

The training was made possible by Cape Winelands District Municipality and 17 learners from the Greater Stellenbosch area were able attended.
